About this deal

Bottle cages come in carbon, plastic, fiber-reinforced resin and metal. There are pros and cons to each, however, the material will influence the price and weight. Carbon and titanium cages will cost a pretty penny, while plastic and resin cages are cheaper. Is lighter better? Still it’s much more secure than many of the lightweight carbon cages that some weight-weenie brands produce.

Bottle cages come in top load and side load versions, and what’s best for you will depend on your frame. If there is tons of room in your front triangle, a top load cage will work just fine. However, as most full-suspension frames possess tight clearances, a side load cage will make your bottles more accessible. However, you’ll only be able to access from one side. How we test the best MTB bottle cages If you’re a speed enthusiast and keeping your bike as light as possible is a priority, a carbon or lightweight polymer cage will help you shave off those extra grams. Secure magnetic holder: Magnets pull the drinking bottle into the holder with snap-in hooks. The bottle will stay firmly in place over every bump!Pros: Impressive bottle grip, lightweight, expanded entry angles, 9 colour options, sliding mount, tough and 450ml bottles feature an updated ergonomic design, easy-squeeze thanks to a softer material and a new high flow bottle cap with a self-sealing and leak-proof valve and optional dirt cover. Buying the best bottle cage for mountain biking isn’t just a matter of getting something your water bottle can simply sit in and be easily accessible mid-ride, although those elements are undoubtedly important. It’s also about how secure it is, and the best mountain bike bottle cages combine all those elements. Their innovative Twist bottle is one of their most popular designs for good reason. Some of its best features are: In spite of the pricey system, this is one that I’d highly recommend as it works like a charm, especially if your bike is pushed for space.

This was taken before the bottle was lost. Quite a bit of grime accumulated beforehand. Photo by Matt Miller. H.M., TWIST bottle system I just got this Hermetic bag, and went camping last weekend where we crossed streams and it was great to have my iPhone safe and dry. This is a must have for beach, mtn biking, boating, camping etc. The twist and pull motion also prevents potentially painful encounters with the top tube and, for me at least, felt less exaggerated than Lezyne's likeable side-entry Flow. We’re cyclists as well as writers and when we aren’t riding bikes for work, we’re riding bikes in our free time too. We are as mad about everything bike-related as you are – maybe even more – and are here to give you our honest opinions and technical input. The Restrap Mag Bottle comprises a separate mount and bottle. Bolted to the bicycle frame in place of the traditional cage is a base plate containing two studs housing powerful magnets. With its twist to release mechanism the Mag Bottle won’t suffer the same fate, allowing you to load up your bike unhindered. As far as mountain biking is concerned, you’re going to want to use bottle cages that your water bottles don’t fly out of the minute you hit the rough stuff. With an Arundel Mandible Carbon bottle cage, you might have to use 40% more force to get that bottle out, but you can rest assured as there’s no seismic force flinging your bottle out of the cage. You can still get it out when you need to though, with a firm but consistent release straight up or at a slightly sideways angle, and the open mouth makes it easy to relocate your bottle if you’ve got tight frame clearances to work with, you can always go for the option of a side-release cage.

Pretty from the off, as the bottle isn’t being repeatedly inserted into a gritty cage, it’ll stay looking new almost indefinitely. If you’re fighting for space on your bike, Topeak Ninja Cage and Tubi 11 tool is one of the many practical solutions to help your case. The side-access design is minimalistic and allows for your multi tool to be bolted to the bottle cage. Top loading: Looking purely for proper grip and not too fussed about the accessinfo your bottle on the go that much? This one’s for you! The standard bolt spacing is around 64mm apart. Brands typically use elongated eyelets for frame height adaptability and compatibility, while some will use a series of smaller eyelets to achieve the same effect. When looking at bottle cages, counting grams should be pretty low on your list of priorities, as even the heavy ones aren't all that heavy. Especially for mountain biking, a bottle cage needs to have oodles of grip strength so as not to send your bottles flying the first time you hit a bump. There are great lightweight cages out there, but don’t expect a cheap cage to deliver low numbers on the scale and have much holding power. At the same time, the cage needs to release the bottle when you pull on it. Top load or side load?Works exactly as advertised. Easy to install and the bottle mounts easily and doesn't fall out. Would recommend to everyone. Some manufacturers aim to fill a specific brief for bottles that fall outside of this range, offering specific over-sized cages. By the same token, you can buy a set of decent left/right-specific cages (Lezyne's, for example) and two bottles for about the same money.
