About this deal

Grimwood toys with some interesting concepts along the way, but never really gets to the “why”? Which is something I don't ordinarily complain about, I don't have to be spoon-fed everything. Here it just feels like a cheat - like going to your favorite restaurant in anticipation of a grand meal only to find that it was closed by the Board of Health. RePlay by Saki Tsukahara is a standalone yaoi/BL manga, that's being published in February 2020 by Tokyopop. It's focused on two ex-baseball high school players who share more than their passion for this sport. Tsukahara's art style is pretty unique and pleasant to look at. Compared to other yaois out there, this one is not only focused on relationship itself, but also on boys' future, their fears and their passion for the sport. I'm not a big fan of sport manga myself but I liked the way author's woven love for baseball into the story.

Sharon Creech has to be one of my all-time favorite authors. I have loved everything I've ever read that she wrote. This book was no exception. I've had it on my shelf to read forever...but I think I was put off by the cover. I mean, a FISH? I didn't want to read a book about fishing. I'm going with it's all a dream within a dream. I like George Berkeley's theory of subjective idealism, what little I know of it from Sophie's World. And, I appreciate the point made by Welwyn Wilton in a comment on her review. During one of his replays he meets a woman who also experiences the same phenomena and during their multiple lifetimes together they try to not only figure this stuff out but search for others who “replay” as well. The next day, the uke and the coach were in the car on the way to shopping for the training camp, they drove passed the seme and an older girl walking close to S University entrance… The coach introduced uke to his friend 嶋, a professional catcher who’s retired and now teaching at N University. The catcher has watched the uke in action previously and praised his throw, said he can recommend uke to N University if he still wants to play baseball. Of course, things get more complicated as the replays become shorter and shorter, each time beginning a few months or years closer to Jeff's unavoidable date of death, which never changes. Some of the replays are far from happy, and Jeff realizes that even with several lifetimes to live, there's never enough time to avoid regrets. In the end, living is about recognizing that, and always moving forward.

What you get here is a pure and sweet best friends to lovers story, a simple plot without drama. The pace can be a bit slow for first half of the book, I appreciate there’s no sex scenes until the last chapter. I read this book for a book club I'm in, and it surprised me that I hadn't heard about it before. I bought the book and I read it and I wanted to like it. There had been a lot of hype when it came out in 1986 and won the World Fantasy Award of 1988. I like fantasy. I write fantasy. But I don't think this book is actually real fantasy. I don't think it's science fiction either. I think it is a failed attempt to write a story where a human being finds redemption through an unusual method. When I try wrapping my mind around time travel and the math associated with such concepts the pressure in my head usually has me looking for a shot of high octane alcohol to keep my brain from exploding into shards of disconnected thoughts. It wouldn’t be very useful after that. I really like Tsukahara Saki sensei’s shoujo manga drawing style, all her characters look very beautiful. However I have to admit storytelling is not her strong suit… Replay was released at the same time as Blue Note, the art and plot have improved compared to her earlier works Powder Snow Melancholy and Escape Drop.I can only imagine the discombobulated state of anyone waking up 25 years in the past. If this phenomenon happened to me today I would be waking up in 1989 Este es uno de esos títulos que presentan una relación 100% sana, sin demasiadas vueltas argumentales y dramones excesivos... REPLAY is created by theatre director Ruby Thompson, designer Rūta Irbīte and writer and composer Sam Caseley. Yuta is pretty easy-going but you can't always tell how serious he is about things he says. Ritsu is reserved but has surprisingly passionate feelings. It was nice dynamic where them liking each other was never in question, just the deepness of it. Replay is a fantasy novel by American writer Ken Grimwood, first published by Arbor House in 1986. It won the 1988 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel.

Well see Bill Murry is in this small town and for some reason he wakes up there every day and it's the same day. He's living Ground Hog day over and over and he needs to learn.... During one subsequent replay, Jeff takes notice of a highly acclaimed film, Starsea, that has become a huge success at the box office in 1974. The film is written and produced by an unknown filmmaker, Pamela Phillips, who has recruited Steven Spielberg to direct and George Lucas as a special effects supervisor, before the two shot to stardom with their own projects. Because the film did not exist in previous replays, Jeff suspects that Pamela is also experiencing the same phenomenon. He locates her and asks her questions about future films which only a fellow replayer would know, confirming his suspicions. I don't care about baseball but this one-shot didn't even have that much of it actually. Yes, Ritsu and Yuta talk about baseball a fair bit: they played it throughout the school, after all. But they don't play anymore: they are "retired" i.e. they are not in their school's team anymore because their graduation is closing and they are busy with university exams. There is a little bit of "urk" in the book (thus my 4 instead of 5). The writer's politics will show up and the book's conclusion is a bit...subjective. I'm not huge on "Message books" and (of course) this book does have it's point of view/message to give. It's not however overwhelming (that is the message doesn't overwhelm the plot) and it doesn't spoil the story. The book doesn't get preachy it simply tells a story where the writer's idea/view point are assumed to be fact. One of the best ways to convince someone of your viewpoint.
