Sarah Adams, who was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, adores her family, sunny days, and putting others at ease. Since she was a young girl, Sarah has had the desire of being a writer. When her girls were taking naps and she had no more justifications to put it off, she finally penned her first book. I tore through When In Rome—it’s a delicious love story, a guilty pleasure without the guilt. But it’s a sneaky novel, too, because Liam Callanan has miraculously melded a light-hearted, globe-hopping, time-travelling plot with soulful meditations on community, commitment, and vocation. I’ll be reading it again in Travestere.” Some people turn to family for questions like that, some turn to friends, and some turn to Magic 8 Balls. But I turn to the one person who never lets me down: Audrey Hepburn. Tonight, I closed my eyes and skipped my finger over my collection of Audrey DVD cases (yes, I still own a DVD player) while playing a game of eenie-meenie-miney-mo until I landed on Roman Holiday. It felt cataclysmic. In the movie, Audrey plays the part of Princess Ann, who was feeling much like I have been—alone and overwhelmed—and she escapes into the night to explore Rome. (Well, more like meanders into the night since she’s loopy on a sleeping sedative, but that’s neither here nor there.) I read this for a book club, so perhaps my mind will change after our discussion because someone in the group clearly liked it enough to add it to our list, but I had a really hard time finishing this book. I didn't like the main character, found many scenes unbelievable, and the amount of times the word "said" was used in dialogue scenes was entirely distracting. Claire said. Marcus said. Monica said. Dorothy said. Sister so-and-so said. Said. Said. Said. Said. Paolo," she says. She would like Monica to meet Paolo. She would like Monica to meet everyone she's met in Rome. Maybe then Monica would understand. Claire tries explaining this to Paolo, but it's no use, and she retreats, condenses. I would like you to meet an old friend of mine, she wants to say, but, like always, her limited fluency truncates this into something more emphatic. Meet my old friend.

Claire's best friend and daughter encourage her to take time for herself in Rome. And she does. She immerses herself in the culture and attempts to learn more Italian language by conversing with locals. She enjoys her surroundings, slow pace of life and the food. Quirky nuns at the convent become friends and wise mentors. When Marcus arrives she is flooded with emotions and snippets of her past. He has always loved her since the day he first saw her in college. They explore their friendship in their middle age in the Eternal City. She turned and left—her assistant, Claire, pausing only briefly to toss me one last hesitant glance over her shoulder. She opened her mouth like she was going to say something, and I found myself desperately hoping she would. See me, please. Sarah Adams's books are woven with pure sunshine and rainbows. Perfect for fans of Abby Jimenez and R. S. Grey, When in Rome is a slice of delight that will leave you smiling until your face hurts. It's everything you could want in a small- town romance, along with a heaping dollop of her signature wit and sparkling charm." - Amy Lea The smile discounts the jab, but still, she's surprised: Google told her earlier that vecchia amica means-

Marsh made extensive enquiries into forensic details and Italian police procedure, with which she admitted struggling. On receipt of the manuscript in January 1970, her agent Edmund Cork wrote to her that it was her best novel to date, a verdict with which her American agent agreed. The novel was favourably received by reviewers and sold very well. [1] stars A quiet, character-driven read about a woman who finds herself at a crossroads contemplating the next chapter of her life.

The crux of the story is about what decisions Claire will make and what she wants in her life. Is it to be a nun or is it to remain in the world, possibly with Marcus? Read this gentle novel to find out. A] sweet romantic comedy . . . This novel's scenic descriptions, food references and coffee bar stops may have the susceptible Googling flights to Italy.” I sat silent as Susan talked and talked, her long, slender, perfectly manicured finger scrolling endlessly across an iPad screen full of schedule notes. Schedule notes I should feel excited to hear. Honored to have! But somewhere in the middle of it, I . . . shut down. Her voice took on the Charlie Brown wah, wah, wah tone and all I could hear was my own heart thumping in my ears. Loud and painful. I went absolutely numb. And what scared me the most was that Susan didn’t even seem to notice. So, Signorina-but it's too jangly and bright and diminutive. And also too young; it's impossible for him to say it to her without a smile. Some weeks ago, she'd finally offered him her name, which he accepted and then never used. Too intimate, apparently. But for her to use his felt, and apparently was, totally natural. I adored this book. Maybe part of it was that it had tied to Milwaukee, where I live. I recognized some of the things the Claire had done.I had a hard time buying that a woman who spent her college years preparing to become a nun (foregoing parties and dates and love) would, immediately after graduation, follow the advice of the bossy friend to hook up with a random guy for a one-night stand. And get pregnant.

That's how he'd described another customer's voice once. I think we'll get hurt a lot in this life, but maybe it's worth it because sometimes we will experience really amazing things, too. Maybe not everything will end in hurt. But we'll never know if we don't try.”
