About this deal

They are also fairly comfortable to hold, although noticeably less strong when fully extended. There’s a comfortable non-slip foam grip at the end and in the middle of the handle, so it can be operated with two hands. With a blade that cuts and holds whatever gets pruned, the ARS 160ZP Long Reach Pruner is great for dead-heading, manicuring and harvesting. Instead of instantly dropping the pruned material on the spot, where it will never be found again, the blades allow you to have more control over where it will be placed.

Adjustable shaft thanks to telescopic handle that reaches branches at high altitude, Internal cable pull-system on the end handle for optimal power transmission and effortless cutting during long-term work, Optimized extendable handle with non-slip base and wear-resistant coating for a secure and soft grip and high durability

The orange handle midway along the shaft activates the blade, pulling down on the handle slides it down the shaft, closes the blade and makes the cut.

Branches up to approx 40mm diameter then a long reach pruner / telescopic lopper is fine. Anything larger then I would suggest a long reach saw. Both the Fiskars UPX86 and the Wolf Garten poles can also be fitted with a saw attachment for a bigger cut. Telescopic tree pruners make neatening up your garden easy. They’re convenient, safe and easy to use; however, there are a lot of different styles to choose between. I was impressed with the additional pole end handle (yellow) to give even more reach, when you can't hold the middle handle. Very clever. Easy to extend and retract and cutting action was very smooth. In general, pole pruners come in two sizes. The shorter fixed length pole pruners are around 1.6m (5.5’) long, and are perfect for managing smaller trees up to 4m (12’) tall, whereas the longer telescopic pole pruners, which extend from 2.4m to 4.0m (8’-12’) long, can reach up to an incredible 6m (18’), but are a bit too long and unwieldy for smaller jobs. The third tree I tested the pruners on were a white sapote, which tends to have ragged fibrous edges on the pruning cuts when tools aren’t sharp enough, and I managed nice clean pruning cuts on this tree also. More on this tree in a moment!Fiskars, a name we have all come to recognise as providers of quality, well made garden tools, pruners and garden shears have not disappointed with this model. The Fiskars UPX86 PowerGear X Telescopic Tree Pruner is a versatile tool designed to make maintaining trees an easy task. Wolf Garten multi-star RC-VM Professional Tree Lopper (closely followed by the Fiskars UPX86 long reach pruner)

It’s a good quality machine, and comes in three separate pieces to allow the length to be adjusted. The handle attaches to the end of one section, the saw to the end of the other, and then there is an additional extension piece. This pruner can be used without the extension, and will measure approximately 1.8 m, or with the extension, measuring 2.7 m. With an adjustable handle that can extend from 2.4 – 4 m, this pruner is the longest model featured on this list, and one of the best telescopic tree pruners for reaching higher branches in treetops. Combined with arms-reach, it will be able to access branches approximately 5 – 6 m high. Most telescopic tree pruners for residential use will extend up to approximately 2 m. This tends to give enough reach for the majority of small trees and bushes without needing to use a step or telescopic ladder. Of course, if you have some trees that are slightly larger, you will be able to use the pruner in conjunction with a ladder as well. However, for the most part you won’t need to.It’s easy enough to find effective pruners that weigh less than 1 kg. Lightweight telescopic pruners are easier to manage and don’t feel too unwieldy. Given that telescopic pruners are often quite long, they can feel sometimes feel unbalanced – for this reason, it helps if they’re light. Heavier pruners can still be manageable, but you should consider whether you have sufficient upper body strength. Heavier pruners should be used with a shoulder strap for support. If you also want to use the pruner for some close-range jobs, make sure that its non-extended length is manageable. Extendable pruners tend to be over 1 m long even on their shortest setting, so there may still be jobs that will still require a pair of smaller hand pruners.

Shaft length adjustable from 2.4m to 4m Maximum reach of 6m with a 230° adjustable cutting head Cuts fresh wood with a diameter of up to 32mm PowerGear X Telescopic pruning shears for fresh, young shoots, branches, and twigs up to Ø 3.2 cm in treetops and dense shrubs - without the help of a ladder - with a maximum total reach of 6 m when being used

Not too heavy even when fully extended. Cuts very easily and made short work of lopping all the trees in my garden. Delighted/ Instead of allowing free adjustability between its lengths, you can only one of three positions: no extension, half extended or fully extended. Therefore, there are some limitations. The orange cutting support enhances visibility, and the cutting angle can be adjusted up to 230° for flexible and accurate pruning. In the picture below, we can see that the newer model (at the top of the picture) has a larger plastic body attaching to the shaft, and the long orange blade support which helps place the blade onto high branches and see where the blade will make the cut from a distance away.
