Bit of a mystery, here--missed this on initial release, and had been looking for a copy for the last few months. In an attempt to distract themselves, they worked on new material in Avon Studios, as announced by Damon Albarn during the gig at AsiaWorld-Expo, Chek Lap Kok. The group have largely been on hiatus since the Magic Whip tour, but have announced plans to reunite in 2023 for various live dates. Initially conceived in Hong Kong, during downtime following a cancelled show in Japan, the band spent five days laying down ideas. The Magic Whip is Blur's surprise reunion record - the biggest surprise of which is how effortlessly it maintains the band's essence, while pushing it's sound into uncharted territory.A1 Lonesome Street 4:23A2 New World Towers 4:02A3 Go Out 4:40B1 Ice Cream Man 3:23B2 Thought I Was A Spaceman 6:16B3 I Broadcast 2:52C1 My Terracotta Heart 4:05C2 There Are Too Many Of Us 4:26C3 Ghost Ship 4:59D1 Pyongyang 5:38D2 Ong. Not sure what exactly I've got here--I'm pretty sure it's not a boot (haven't heard tell of or seen boots of this one, and the packaging is beautiful, way higher quality than any boot I've ever seen), so is it a brand new repress or something else?

The band consists of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. It wasn't until Graham Coxon reprised these sessions and presented them to long-time producer Stephen Street, who went on to develop them with the guitarist, that they realised they might have material worthy of a new album. Alternative rock groups wish their 'creative' side, which usually leaves the listener a little weirded out, sounded as good as Blur just being, well.Anyway on listening to The Magic Whip today, it opens with the Blur sound we’re familiar with from the early to mid 90s.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Their seventh album, Think Tank (2003), continued their experimentation with electronic sounds and was also shaped by Albarn's growing interest in hip hop and world music, featuring more minimal guitar work. The Magic Whip is the first Blur album since 2003's Think Tank, the first with guitarist Graham Coxon onboard since 1999's 13 (Coxon was booted from the Think Tank sessions a week in and summarily quit), and the first with producer Stephen Street since 1997's Blur. Following a stylistic change influenced by English guitar pop groups such as the Kinks, Depeche Mode and Radiohead, Blur released Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993), Parklife (1994) and The Great Escape (1995). On the way back from his tour of Australia in December, Albarn stopped in Hong Kong once more for lyrical inspiration. It’s fantastic, but compared to the two new songs they’ve released in 2023, it feels incredibly transitional.
