About this deal

We’ve had a lot of questions over the years asking about everything from what are the best things to do in County Antrim if you only have a day to where to go to escape the hustle and bustle.

Walkers can expect to experience all four seasons in one day! However, that said, each season does bring it’s own set of characteristics. Spring (March, April, and May) There’s also plenty of street art in Belfast, if you’d like to dodge the politics. And, if it’s raining, there are loads of art galleries in Belfast to nip into. Places to go in Antrim: Where have we missed? It would be near impossible to visit a cosy pub on the island of Ireland and not try a pint of creamy Guinness. Although made in Dublin, this iconic drink is a firm favourite in every corner of the Emerald Isle. Guinness Pint Nearby Trails Depending on your level of fitness and your own personal preference, our Antrim Glens & Coastline trail comes in two options; Gentle and Moderate levels. A lot of our tours also offer a Challenging option for the more seasoned hiker, but as this trail consists of relatively flat hiking terrain along the Causeway Coast, and only a few, less arduous climbs, there is no challenging option available for this hike. However, if you would like to extend your tour to include more hiking (or relaxing!) this can be catered for. Gentle Hikes Glenarm Castle, dating from around 1750 with early 19th century alterations (Restored around 1825) lies near the village and the Antrim estate extends up the Glen for about four miles on both sides of the river. Near the castle can be traced to the remains of the old church Templeoughter, the upper church. In recent years, walking and hiking outdoors has been widely reported to have numerous physical and mental health benefits. The following are examples of some of these benefits: The now-famous Northern Ireland Coastal Route is fairly straightforward, once you have a clear idea of what you want to see and do. It’s worth taking a minute or so to look over our Causeway Coastal Route map above to get a sense of the route. Afloat or ashore, these maps are guides to a beautiful area offering a tranquil cruise on the lakes, fishing or visiting the many local tourist attractions. See the ruins of a magnificent medieval castle rich in history. Home to several clans throughout the centuries, the sheer edges of the castles dramatic basalt-cut clifftop location plummeting into the Irish Sea would of once made it an advantageous defense point, and today make it one of the most impressive castles on the island of Ireland. Dunluce Castle Glenariff Forest Park

The next glen on your Irish road trip will take you to the village of Glenarm. Glenarm village is the home of Glenarm Castle with its associated private wooded area and demesne forming the estate of the Earl of Antrim. It is the main focal point of the Glenarm village. The castle is available for film locations and as a wedding venue. It has a tea shop and gift shop plus property to rent such as the gamekeepers cottage. The MacDonnell clan relocated to this area after the collapse of Dunluce Castle further north. The castle was the seat of the MacDonnell clan since 1750. The remains of Templeoughter Church is close by and is claimed to be the burial place of Shane O’Neill, minus his head. His head was put on a spike and displayed in Dublin Castle All that aside, there is one global phenomenon that Antrim is closely associated with, and through which a lot of people are probably a lot more familiar with the landscape of Antrim than they think. In 2010 filming began for a little series called Game of Thrones. It is possible now to visit most of the locations used in the series – with a lot of them either on or just off our Antrim Glens and Coastline walking tour some of which have been outlined above. ‘The Kingsroad’ AKA The Dark Hedges Noise can also be a form of pollution. Whoever walks through a forest talking and laughing loudly, for example, ruins the peace and quiet of other walkers, who can no longer hear the birds. The same goes for cell phones that suddenly start ringing. Keep the volume down and respect your surroundings. Ultimately, the point is to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy walking through nature. So that applies to you, but also to those who tread the path after you.Between Cushendun and Ballycastle are three attractions with breathtaking views: Torr Head, Murlough Bay and Fair Head. They are a scenic detour branching off the main road, the A2 (Antrim Coastal Road). To reach these attractions:

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park – A well preserved medieval 1425 castle with themed banquets in costume. Its a great fun and rebel rousers may spend the night in the dungeon. Folk park consists of village shops, farmhouses reminiscent of villages that surrounded castles in the medieval days It is the few remaining natural woodlands forest with a size of 600 hectares within the 9 Glens of Antrim. Many of the other woodlands in Northern Ireland were felled for timber or to clear the land for farmhouses. Take a break from the Irish road trip as the forest is stunning and walking in the area feels special. It is no wonder it is locally known as “fairy wood”. Explore the Breen Forest for ancient trees, rare wildlife, stunning flora and fauna or the 2000 year old ancient oakwood that lies three-quarters of a mile walk inland. Some areas are marshy so it’s advisable to wear appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water Hike Ireland / Walking Tours Ireland (The Glens of Antrim Walks): Next, you will come across Glencloy, also referred to as the ‘Glen of the Hedges’. At the bottom of the glen lies the coastal village of Carnlough, where a delightful trip up to the Cranny Falls is recommended. The presence of the charming and picturesque Carnlough Harbour enhances the glen. Glenariff Forest Park Hike, Glens of Antrim In the autumn as the climate cools down, and the daylight hours start to shorten, it can be cloudy and windy. The leaves on the trees, especially in Glenariff Forest Park, turn to beautiful autumnal colours. The day light hours in November can be quite short, which is why Hillwalk Tours do not offer tours along the trail for this month. Winter (December, January, and February)
