About this deal

Okay, I can't be the only one who thinks it's absolutely hilarious that this 40-page picture book has an audiobook. After selected performances of this National Theatre of Scotland production, the young audience gets to relive the fun. I bought this a few years back, hoping that one day I could share Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean work with my nephew.

The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish – review

to Neil Gaiman fans, and to anyone looking for more mature picture-books with a quirky, offbeat sense of humor. A fine US first edition, first printing hardback - in a fine dustjacket - All my books are always securely packed with plenty of bubblewrap in professional boxes and promptly dispatched (within 2-3 days) - SIGNED BY DAVE MCKEAN - Pictures of the book are available upon request. Literally, THE DAY I SWAPPED MY DAD FOR TWO GOLDFISH in both hardcover and trade paperback, is about 50% more expensive than comparable children's books from other publishers.

I docked half a star because of a “fat joke” I could have done without, but otherwise thought this was a hoot. The book was adapted by Oliver Emmanuel and Lu Kemp for a touring interactive promenade production for the National Theatre of Scotland in 2013. McKean adapted the cover artwork from The Day I Swapped My Dad for the 1999 Counting Crows album This Desert Life.

I read it on Father's Day or perhaps the day afterward, believe it or not, which kind of added to the fun of it, regardless of the fact that no children were in the house. Some adults are perplexed and alarmed by this culture-sharing, because it challenges the dominant perception that child and adulthood are, and should remain, distinct states (Danesi, 2003; Postman, 1982). I read Fortunately,The Milk to 4th and 5th graders which is a chapter book where dad goes out to get the milk and when he finally comes home, he explains to the kids who have been waiting for him, all the things that happened on his short trip.

In Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, children of the 1940s who possess supernatural powers work with the sixteen-year-old protagonist from the present to stave off the “wights” and “hollowgasts” who seek to devour them. The newspaper reading dad and the little sister provided a lot of amusement, and the premise was really funny.
