Only shooting when flying at high speed was it possible to spot moments of bleed or artefacts in the compression, and the level of detail retained by leaves on trees as the camera moved was captivating. Try templates made especially for MasterShots and effortlessly create amazing aerial videos that impress and awe. This is, of course, welcome, but it’s impossible to see a difference between the Mavic 3 and previous-generation models when the drone is hovering.
The jewel in the crown of the Mavic 3 is its dual Hasselblad camera, with the main camera featuring a 20MP Four Thirds CMOS sensor and an equivalent focal length of 24mm. With the new features like Spotlight and Master Shots, you don’t have to worry about keeping the subject framed correctly, just how you want to fly around it. In addition, D-Log M mode reduces the difficulty of color grading, allowing you to fully enjoy efficient post-production without losing image quality or clarity. We gave HNCS a bit of a challenge by flying toward the sun in a slight mist; here is how it handled it (left) against Adobe Camera Raw on Auto on the right. Indeed the DJI Air 2S swiped a lot of Mavic 2 Pro’s features – especially the 1-inch sensor – and has made a reasonable contender for the crown amongst DJI’s folding drones. Noise handling at Higher ISO settings is also excellent, making this a compelling option for stills photographers producing aerial stills commercially.
In contrast, the Mavic 3 Classic still maintains its place as the budget Mavic 3 option, becoming a very attractive option for recreational or semi-pro photography and filmmaking. It makes a lot of sense to have a dedicated controller with a bright screen and the Fly app installed instead of a mobile phone or tablet. Other flight charachteristis can be edited too via curves in the Advanced settings menu, so don’t expect a switch back to the old software anytime soon. The DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral is engineered for agriculture, land management, and environmental monitoring.
We found orbiting autumnal trees saw the odd struggle from the auto mode, but for the most part the system does almost too good a job, balancing the exposure of the whole view in a way helpful for flying rather than consistent cinematography. Like the Mavic 3 Enterprise, the M3T can carry additional accessories, such as the RTK module (which improves georeferencing accuracy but not to the level of the Mavic 3 Enterprise) and a loud speaker which can be a crucial tool during certain emergency scenarios. The lack of control is frustrating more in the context of the main camera than perhaps it would be otherwise; one of DJI’s videos even suggests it’s simply a tool for hovering and planning your shots from a safe spot, which makes sense. There isn’t much new to be said about the controller, which carries over from the Air 2S and other recent DJI drones. Despite all these upgrades, the Mavic 3's design matches its backpack-friendly predecessors, and the weight of both models has been kept below 900g. While the battery is a key player in the Mavic 3's improved flight time, some more efficient motors and propellers (alongside the drone's slightly reduced weight) help to increase flight times and provide a maximum speed of 47mph / 21m/s in Sport Mode.
