About this deal

Final verdict: Overall, this is a fun collection of rhymes and songs, accompanied by whimsically delightful and brightly colored illustrations. Children will enjoy singing along with their parents as they work their way through the book. This is the perfect way to share these famous bedtime poems with a new generation of babies and toddlers. The illustrations are sure to grab the attention of any young readers, and the rhyming text is soothing and sweet. Perfect for bedtime!

This book can aid children that already know the song, “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” so they can follow along with the story and pictures, and recognize any new words within the book. The cover of the board book is metallic and star-filled, which catches small children’s attention. Toddlers will love to run their hands over the shiny material and hold it up to the light to make it shine like the namesake star. It’s really a simple and beautiful cover, but my daughter fell completely in love with it. She loves to carry it around and make the cover stars ‘twinkle.’At first glance this book could easily be mistaken as a song, however it is the complete original poem of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" by Jane Taylor. This story is in a Christmas theme and tells the story of "the traveller in the dark" also known as, Santa Clause! In the poem, Santa comes to the homes of children guided by a twinkling star in the winter sky. On this Christmas Eve, Santa visits the home of a sweet girl who is the speaker of the poem. The poem is her thank you to the star for bringing Santa to her home.

I have never heard of or seen this rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and I absolutely loved it. In the appropriate setting I could see this poem being a nice addition to the holiday season. What left me wanting more: As a small point, I was not expecting religious tones to some of the rhymes, which talk about praying, angels, God, and Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are subtly religious, but may be a surprise to some caregivers who may not be Christian (though praying could be more universal of a concept). Caroline Jayne Church is a bestselling author and illustrator. Some of her bestselling titles include I LOVE YOU THROUGH AND THROUGH by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak, HOW DO I LOVE YOU? by Marion Dane Bauer, YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE by Jimmie Davis, and GOOD NIGHT, I LOVE YOU. She lives in Surrey, England, but you can visit her at www.carolinejaynechurch.com. This book can facilitate a discussion about a time in their life where they remember looking forward to something special.A) During a unit on holidays around the world, this poem could be used to introduce the Christmas tradition of Santa Clause visiting homes on Christmas Eve and leaving gifts for children.
