About this deal

What we don’t: Design is a little dated; we'd opt for the Quest for more technical terrain or heavy loads. While I love the Salomon hiking shoes I have, they're big boots and a little too warm for summer hikes, so when Salomon asked if I wanted to try the lighter Salomon Outline GTX shoes, I didn't say no. The model looks and fits like a sneaker more than a hiking shoe but does it also hold up on rough terrain?

Last but not least, the lugs, which are 5 mm in depth, present 27 different geometries to finish off the surface-gripping formula. No mud can ever hinder your pace since the lugs are well-spaced enough to let the mud come off on its own. Stability-wise, several features accommodate tread and steadiness, namely, the outsole’s relatively wide base (wide in comparison to its fit). Combined with the 5 mm lugs, both elements guarantee smoothe hiking on whatever trail you choose. However, I always have to make two knots or the laces untie at some point while I'm walking. It's not that big of a painpoint but it does take longer to untie them again after the walk. Whether it’s padding up a gritstone slab or running along the North Wales skyline, the Salomon OUTline Prism GTX proved they were able to cope with the extremes in UK’s weather thanks to their breathable mesh and waterproof Gore-Tex membrane. These were one of the most breathable shoes we have tested.Water Repellent: A special treatment is applied to provide extra protection, ensuring that the fabric does not absorb water during light rain and showers.

Salomon went classic with regular flat laces on the Outline GTX. This type of laces reduces discomfort for the instep, guaranteeing a comfortable fit. They're also durable and easy to tie.The Outline GTX comes in two versions: The Salomon Outline Low GTX hiking shoes that I have (both available in waterproof and non-waterproof) and a mid-high version (waterproof only).

Salomon Outbound Prism GTX Hiking Waterproof Shoes For Women

We often prefer Gore-Tex shoes given our roots in the rainy Pacific Northwest, but waterproof designs do tend to suffer when it comes to breathability. To be sure, Gore-Tex is best-in-class in terms of balancing these two conflicting priorities, but our feet do grow sweaty from time to time during the heat of summer. Thankfully, Salomon offers many of their designs in both waterproof and non-waterproof variations, including the ultra-popular X Ultra, X Raise, OUTline, Vaya, XA Pro 3D v8, OUTpulse, X Crest, and Outbound Prism. The new OUTpulse collection includes both waterproof and non-waterproof options If you're looking for a lightweight, sturdy walking shoe with lots of grip that still looks nice enough to wear around town, I can recommend the Salomon Outline GTX. Salomon is known for their in-house Contagrip rubber, but the shoes above still vary widely based on lug depth and spacing and the type of compound used. Their All Terrain compound is used for the majority of their designs and focuses on maximizing traction over a wide variety of surfaces. The other variation, called Mug Contagrip, is built specifically for biting into softer and looser terrain like mud (although the lug design plays a huge role, which we cover below). Models that utilize the Mud compound include the X Ultra 3 and Odyssey 1 Advanced. a talpbetét újrahasznosított felülete kávézaccból készült, mely az innovatív S.Café® technológián alapszik, kiválóan elvezeti a nedvességet és semlegesíti a szagokatOn the outside, the upper is comprised of anti-debris mesh (keeps debris from sneaking inside), synthetic material (sustains durability and protection from outdoor activities), and the GORE-TEX membrane (found in the waterproof version). A final decision between the X Ultra 3 and 4 will likely come down to preferences on weight and fit. The newer version shaves off around 2 ounces per pair but sacrifices some cushioning and comfort. As we mentioned above, the 4’s collar also sits fairly low and is more prone to letting in trail debris and water, and it’s slightly wider than the prior generation (although both are still on the narrow side of average). And a final—albeit entirely subjective—difference is styling: While the X Ultra 3 has been around a while, the 4 has a decidedly modern look and feel. But there’s a reason we've kept the X Ultra 3 at the top of our hiking boot round-up: It still holds its own in the market...
