Although I liked it it didn’t deliver everything it promised. First of all, why is the title The Guest Book when said guest book plays such a small part in the whole plot? Halfway through the story stalled a bit. Things didn’t seem to go anywhere and one of the things I dislike most in this kind of stories started happening. Why does the husband always trust more the opinion of strangers than that of his own wife? To say it's categorised as a thriller, I didn't find it very thrilling - excuse the pun. It's a bit mysterious, maybe, but honestly, all that build up for, in my opinion, is not a fantastic ending. I was really waiting for some big plot twist or a seriously dramatic turn of events. Sadly, it never came. Metcalf, Mitch (December 12, 2018). "Updated: ShowBuzzDaily's Top 150 Tuesday Cable Originals & Network Finals: 12.11.2018". Showbuzz Daily. One Sentence Summary: In Italy, Leah secretly tries to unravel the mystery surrounding her niece’s death less than a year ago and, in Derby, Joanna ends up hosting a man she barely knows, but who seems to have been studying her. The Other Guest is a fantastic sun-soaked thriller with a gripping mystery at its heart. It's the perfect read to take on holiday - but just keep one eye on those other guests!' Lucy Clarke

With his open American face, his frank American voice, one might think to oneself, There walks a good man. A noble man. He appeared dashing and splendid. He had the place and the power to make good, to do good. And he did so. He believed one could do right. He had been raised to expect that one could. His was the last generation for whom those givens remained as undisturbed as a silk purse."

Harry Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer team up to exonerate a woman who’s already served five years for killing her ex-husband. Listen to me, Moss. We have always been here at the center. Always. It's only that you've just decided to take a look." As soon as they arrive Grace is already unhappy with the gloomy brooding atmosphere of the place and the owners are not helping. They seem somehow wooden and unwelcoming. Charles is loving it though as he remembers Pamela and Michael Jeffrey fondly. Soon, Grace is hearing and seeing things and things go bump in the night in an effort to ramp up the creepiness. It didn’t work for me. Not much actually happened other than a lot of contrived creepiness. Grace seems haunted and Charles is an odd one, he comes across as a bit of a cipher. The Jeffreys are made out to be creepy and the house haunted. And of course the landline is down and the cell phone tower is too so there not only trapped in the town but incommunicado.

As the storm rages on, phone lines are down, transport links cut off. Grace is desperate to leave, but Charles remains unaffected by the eerie stillness of the house. Is it just Grace's imagination or do the owners, and Charles, have something to hide? The Guest Book is not here to entertain you, or carry you away, or let you experience a bit of schadenfreude against your social betters, while also imagining a pot of mussels floating in butter. No, in the end, it is here to lecture you. It is here to discuss themes; it is here to say something about America. Arjay Smith as Arlo (season 1), a fan of the show, seen only in cold open summarizing the previous week's episode to coworker Woody to entice him to watch the series. Tommy wants his girlfriend Marla to do two things: 1) finally accept his marriage proposal and 2) get off crystal meth. He takes Marla to the mountains for a vacation, hoping it'll give her a chance to break her meth habit. They break into the currently-vacant Froggy Cottage, where Tommy flushes Marla's meth down the toilet. While they are fighting, a bear breaks into the cottage. After surviving the bear's invasion, Marla agrees she doesn't need the crystal meth and asks Tommy to marry her. Dan Beirne as Tommy (season 2), manager at Emmy Lou's Grill and caretaker of his mother's beach rental, Barefeet Retreat.I am not the biggest fan of whodunit's (mostly because the ones I read are not done well) however I did really get into this. Laila and her husband arrive for a week's holiday in Greece in desperate need of a reset. Laila, who has gone through multiple rounds of IVF with no result is using this trip to heal her relationship with her husband James who in turn is hiding a deep trauma. This holiday that is supposed to be a fresh start for them turns out to be the worst decision they made as a murder takes place and questions everything Laila has ever know. Although the story leaves us with a hint of hope, it is a shy, tentative first step. Mirrors don’t lie- looking into one, seeing the dark corners of our nation’s past, and our own personal histories exposed, is neither easy, nor kind.

It’s a popular idea that we have the right to tell stories about the cultural wrongdoings we have enacted throughout history by using our personal experiences and by putting our bodies and our stories into cultural and religious and queer spaces that do not belong to us. There are some stories, however, that we just don’t have the right to tell. And as every two-year-old toddler knows, we don’t get to forgive ourselves. Only the people we have wronged have permission to do that. And if by chance we’ve wronged the world itself, we never get to make our peace; people have long memories, but Uranium-235 has a half-life of almost 704 billion years. The carbon cycle will hold your footprint against you for longer than the dinosaurs walked this planet. a b c Metcalf, Mitch (August 4, 2017). The book cleverly highlights the extreme heat of Italy among the glory of the palatial hotel, and the rich and elegant visitors who frequent the place. That in itself is fascinating to read as the hotel has elevated itself to such a degree that only the very rich and prestigious will visit it. Leah, however, has feelings similar to Amy, and does not like the place or the people, but is unsure of the reason why she feels this way.A loner's family invites him to the beach house for a weekend and asks a stripper to pretend to be his girlfriend. He neglects to tell her that they are reality TV stars--and they are not really his family. I was very excited (maybe a bit too excited) to read The Other Guest so it’s a bit surprising that I found this an okay read, nothing wrong with it really, but there just wasn’t enough in it to get me really excited about it. I did enjoy the holiday setting in a lush 5* resort on a Greek island and Leila’s people watching. It felt oddly relatable although I don’t think – I hope not – I’m that much into it as Leila. Initially gripped, I had high hopes for this book, unfortunately, after the main event (which happened very early in the story), not a lot happened and sadly I found the ending quite disappointing. A surprising plot and lots of twists with interesting characters. I loved the writing style and the setting of the story' The book shows not only how the Milton family changed but how society itself has changed. Again, thought provoking. Slow to start but won me over. This is not a book to speed through, take your time, absorb it, ponder it, think about the issues this book brings up, and maybe examine your own family history.
