About this deal

I didn’t find the Hoover H-Free 300 too loud, either, coming in at 67.9dB on Low, 69.5dB on Medium and 74.9 on Turbo. That makes this one of the quietest cordless vacuum cleaners I’ve tested. Lightweight, cord-free and good suction power are key ingredients of a great stair-cleaning vacuum but the H-Free does want for a tool to make the most of those talents. At the rear, there’s a Power Control touch-sensitive button that you tap to run through the Power mode. With non-powered tools, there are three power modes: Low, Medium and Turbo; add a motorised brush and you just get Medium and Turbo modes.

The same can be said of the hose. Releasing the upper section of the handle to use as an extension tube, push-fitting the hose in the floor-head and handle is a rather flimsy affair. It does give you fairly decent reach, however, and we effectively used the extension tube with the dusting brush to clean above canvas paintings. There’s a nice attention to detail on this model too, with dual LED DustLocator lights built in to both the nozzle and the handheld section of the design. That means you’ve got illumination at your disposal to cover all scenarios, from darkened room corners through to those hard to reach shelf and cupboard innards. As we’ve mentioned, the Hoover won’t provide the same suction power as one of the more recent Dyson models. A light and fairly small hose clips over the handle for storage. The upper part of the handle offers a six-position height adjustment including slotting completely down into the lower half. To use the hose and detail tools, you have to pop up a slightly awkward clip on the floor-head and press and turn the hose into place.Sound levels weren’t too bad: I measured the Hoover H-Free 500 at 78.8dB maximum on regular mode and 84.3dB on Turbo mode. This compares well with the competition. Should you buy the Hoover H-Free 500?

The Hoover H-Free 100 is a cordless vacuum cleaner equipped with a 22 V battery, providing a runtime of up to 25 minutes. The unit has a cyclonic/filtering dirt separating method and a dust capacity of 0.9 L. Designed for dry cleaning, this vacuum cleaner has a width of 260 mm and a depth of 234 mm. It weighs 2400 g, making it easy to handle and store. The adjustable handle is a nice touch, providing plenty of height options, and the grip is comfortable. The machine works with the handle fully collapsed into the lower section, making it suitable for the most vertically challenged adult or even a child. The handle reclines very low to the ground, allowing easy access under obstacles such as the sofa. That’s countered to an extent by the bulky floor-head – which, at about 14cm tall from the floor, is going to limit how low an obstacle the vac can get under. As is standard for Hoover vacuum cleaners, there’s a rubber wiper in the box that can be slid into the floor head for better suction on hard floors. This also makes the vacuum cleaner harder to push. I’d prefer to see a soft roller, of the type included with the Dyson V11. Not everyone needs a top-of-line, do everything cordless vacuum cleaner. For some, a cheaper, less powerful model will likely fulfil most needs. Step forward the Hoover H-Free 300 (HF322PT), then: a well-priced cordless cleaner with a removable battery, pet tools and a great range of accessories. Access to Hoover Care, where you can manage your plans, book a repair, and get expert advice all in one place.
