About this deal

The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 has a nice flex at room temperature, with a score of 31.2N the Velocity Nitro 2 is a little stiffer than an average recovery run shoe. This will inhibit speed and probably won’t change in any future iterations. I’m very happy to lose some speed in return for the sheer amount that this shoe can take on.

Puma Nitro series of running shoes continue to make strides in the endurance running world. Puma is relentless in putting its might behind Nitro, be it introducing new shoes such as women-specific RunXX Nitro, short distance racers Fast FWD, Fast R Nitro, or lining up the upgrades for the original Nitro series. DPT/Footwear Science: B+ ( The dual density midsole integration is pretty good. There are some subltle plays through the outsole and midsole geometry that also seem to help with linear motion.) There have been some subtle technological updates since the first iteration of the shoes, but Puma seemingly paid more attention to ironing out the minor issues with ergonomics. Don't fix it if it ain't broke, am I right? Puma increased the amount of NITRO foam in the heel while also extending the layer of EVA the full length and width of the shoe. The new midsole foam configuration makes it smoother and more comfortable, while also enhancing its agility and ability to run fast. It feels soft and smooth upon impact and when rolling onto the ball of the foot, and slightly firmer and snappier in the forefoot prior to toe-off. I have run more than 140kms so far. I have used it for all kinds of runs - easy, speed work, tempo, and long runs. I have used it for a few long runs of about 20km. The shoe has enough cushioning and more to take you that distance. While I haven’t tried it for distances beyond 20km, I have no doubts that it can handle them well. The durability is fairly normal for a lighter-weight training shoe. I have 37 miles on my pair and have some solid abrasion on the usual spots (left posterior lateral heel). However, I have yet to wear through the outsole rubber, so I expect average durability for most runners. Overall, the PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 is a daily training and long run shoe with a bit of reach into uptempo running thanks to a well-cushioned NITRO midsole. When I tested the shoe in the lab freezer I got an increase in stiffness of 36.2% at 42.5N, which is 5% above average. For me, this is a slight concern. While I don’t expect anyone to run at -20°C, I would also like to see that number at around 21% to make the shoe feel the same during any run. The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 has all the grip you’d needUltraspire Fitted Race Belt: The best way to carry your phone and goods on the run. No bounce and various sizes for waist I am recovering from an irritated posterior tibialis, so am pronating more and am more sensitive to excessive medial motion. I was surprised that the Velocity Nitro 2 actually ended up being stable enough for me to not only get daily training miles in but also for a 17 mile long run. The Adidas Solarglide 5 is an excellent max cushioned daily trainer for style-conscious runners. The Bubble Boost midsole provides a good bounce while the L.E.P. system ensures beginner runners won't stray too far off the optimal course. The Solarglide 5 is the new unisex Ultraboost without the premium price tag.

The relatively high 10mm heel-toe offset—the difference in height between where the heel sits in the shoe and where the forefoot sits in the shoe—gives this shoe a classic geometry that complements a moderate heel-striking gait, while also producing a modest feeling of forward propulsion as your foot rolls through the gait cycle. Some wear-testers found that it feels somewhat smoother at medium and faster speeds than it does at slower, recovery paces. DPT/Footwear Science: A-/B+ ( Great use of midsole sculpting for subtle guidance. Guide line through forefoot is another method for subtle guidance in the forefoot. Heel bevel should be a bit more lateral give that heel strikers land at the posterior lateral heel)There aren’t any major flaws to this shoe, but the combination of the high heel collar and firm heel counter might make this shoe feel slightly awkward around the ankle for some runners. Stability: A- ( Traction is good throughout, usage of EVA midsole helps, supportive upper, though NITRO does still soften the platform and gives some deformation underfoot when loaded) Stability: A- [Stable Neutral] ( Excellent stability for a neutral shoe thanks to EVA midsole elevations and guidance line in forefoot) Matt: The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 is a lighter weight daily trainer with a comfortable fit, stable ride for a neutral shoe and plenty of NITRO cushioning for longer mileage. The addition of a gentle heel bevel and toe spring add efficiency to the ride, while the NITRO foam provides pleasant, mildly bouncy cushioning underfoot. A redesigned upper provides structure in the rearfoot and adaptability upfront, allowing it to work for a moderate variety of foot types. The PUMA Velocity Nitro 2 is a solid shoe with enough cushioning for long runs, daily runs and light enough for some uptempo work. Fit: A- (The upper is a lightweight yet still pretty plush mesh that fits well throughout while still being comfortable. The length may be a tad long. )
