One player assumes the role of the evil wizard character (Zargon/Morcar), and uses a map taken from the game's quest book to determine how the quest is to be played. As the strongest in combat, this race also benefits from significant health but lacks magical abilities and is notably vulnerable to magical attacks. On a first playthrough, this expansion comes out swinging, making good use of new room tiles to help set the scene.
If the attacker rolls more skulls than the defender rolls shields, the defender loses body points according to how many skulls they failed to defend. Still the mere fact that the number has doubled would be a big help all by itself (the 1992 rules state heroes can hire as many as they can afford), as that's another 12 body points potentially added to the party (unlike the EU mercs, they can be healed if they are at 1 BP, to their max of 2. New Dread spells allow sorcerers to use the power of the cold and ice to their advantage, so there is plenty for heroes and Dungeon Masters to keep things interesting.
