In response to your comment, I’m going to agree with you that of course the Lord would not want to take away any celebrations that He commands us to keep. These 7 feasts that you’re referring to are not the holidays that this article is talking about. These are the feasts days that pointed to Jesus. However, here is an even deeper look into the evolution of modern day holidays that have all evolved from paganism. After understanding Santa wasn’t real, he asked why people dress up as Santa. I said it was kind of like Halloween – for fun. To mix in some good news with the disappointing, I also told him that give him the gifts because we love him and want to be generous and thoughtful. I told him that it is better to get gifts because people who love you rather than from Santa, who judges you to decide whether you get gifts.

If I go to great lengths to deceive my child in the name of “fun” what does that say about what I value most? What kind of example is it? Is having fun a good excuse for lying? Obedience that pleases God is done out of love. I want my kids to do what I tell them as an act of love and trust, not to please some judgmental old man who’s holding all the cards. At 2 she probably won’t remember or “get” much.. as she grows older, it will matter more. Some ideas of how to respond to her questions are. Don’t preach Santa. It’s not needed. The kids will hear lots about it from their friends. Don’t discourage questioning.

We are completely free to choose whether to include Santa in our Christmas traditions, but our main priority should not be prancing around declaring our freedom nor judging those who think differently from us. Our main goal should be to love others; to consider their good and think about how to help them make their own godly and upright choices. The thing that should consume our minds and our creativity is how to celebrate the birth of Jesus. How can we teach our children about the wonderful birth of our Saviour? How can we create traditions that help us to glorify God as we celebrate the birth of Jesus? Doesn’t this prophecy perfectly describe our society today? Children are being taught, at a very early age, to love material possessions, to try to get as many presents as possible, and to love themselves greatly, all as a result in believing this pagan myth of Santa Claus.
