About this deal

Most of our plants are sent out ready potted and all packed with the greatest of care to arrive with you in tip-top condition.

K., and more sustainable options have been developed in recent years, such as milled pine-bark, other fibrous materials such as coir, or sustainably farmed live sphagnum moss, combined with sharp sand or perlite. The instructions here are intended for tropical, subtropical, pygmy, woolly, and warm temperate Drosera, Drosera regia, Dionaea, warm temperate Pinguicula, Genlisea, and terrestrial Utricularia with digressions for cold temperate Drosera, Sarracenia, Darlingtonia, Cephalotus, Mexican and cold temperate Pinguicula, epiphytic Utricularia, and Nepenthes. There are even some native carnivorous plants – small but exquisite sundews covered in glistening, sticky droplets and butterworts with a rosette of broad, light green sticky leaves and attractive mauve flowers.

Native to swamps in mountainous regions of the USA, the cobra plant ( Darlingtonia californica) has hooded, tubular leaves that resemble a striking cobra. Though there are hundreds of species, each with unique adaptations, carnivorous plants can be classified into five groups based on their trapping methods: pitfall, adhesive, snap, snare and suction. Our product line currently consists of Carnivorous Plant Food, Orchid Plant Food, House Plant Food, Cacti Food, Herb Food, and Bonsai food. The ratio of the mix is not critical, 1 part peat with 1 part sand works well for most carnivorous plants.

Common butterwort ( Pinguicula vulgaris) grows throughout the UK on bogs, fens, wet heaths and moors. During production, we make sure to maintain the levels of cyanobacteria found in the peat which in turn helps give carnivorous plants that extra level of nutrients found in their native growing environments. Place in a cool, unheated room or cool greenhouse – around 7°C is ideal – and keep the compost just moist. Most carnivorous plants are perennials, so will live for several years if given the correct care and conditions.Venus flytraps, Cape sundews, and North American pitcher plants love full direct sun, so in the US and UK that means a south-facing windowsill, a conservatory, or a greenhouse. Pots: Plastic pots work best, but fully-glazed ceramic pots are also fine, provided they have plenty of drainage holes.
