About this deal

First off, the pouch is simple, yet looks quite elegant if you ask me. The HyperX logo on top is a nice touch. I like that they didn’t choose to be flashy with their name on it, and decided to go with an embossed design. However, for a relatively steep price point compared to other gaming earbuds, I would have expected the material to be a little more deluxe than plastic. Even the earpieces seem to be made of the same material as the wire, albeit slightly more rigid. This makes for a very uniform appearance, but it’s hardly an imaginative one.

The short answer is that the Cloud Earbuds perform well enough, and provides an immersive experience for gaming alone. The 20 – 20 000 Hz frequency is balanced with a warm midrange and well-rounded highs. HyperX has said that these gaming earbuds come with ‘improved bass’ and that is somewhat true. Earbuds often struggle to compete against headphones in the lows because they’re limited by driver size. Moreover, the Battle Buds come with a soft carry pouch that you tie together, whereas the Cloud Earbuds use a hard, rubber zip-up case. This adds a winning point for the Cloud Earbuds. It’s hard to cancel out noise completely with earbuds, but the Cloud Earbuds are still able to reduce environmental sounds, at least to the point that they sound muffled. Fortunately, they weren’t too distracting while playing immersive games, such as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. A screenshot from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild I know how this sounds, but it wasn’t all bad — the earbuds did work as intended some of the time, and when they did the audio quality was pretty good. I was especially impressed with how well they reproduced spatial audio in games (I’ve been playing the new chapter drop in Elder Scrolls Online, so I’ve had plenty of time to walk around cities and consider whether I really feel the atmosphere). They do a very good job with multi-layered sound — for earbuds, and in general. One of the biggest reasons for using gaming earbuds over gaming headphones is their lightweight structure. Headphones can be cumbersome and, after a few hours of gaming, they can put a strain on your ears. The HyperX Cloud Earbuds weigh just 0.67 ounces and are a perfect option for those looking for mobility and long-term comfort. The idea in itself sounds great for a country like India where there has been an eruption in the number of smartphone gamers in the last one year. All thanks to PUBG Mobile and the OEMs who've made smartphone capable of such intense processing. With all that happening in the smartphone world, HyperX didn't miss the opportunity of giving something that's going to be the next need of serious smartphone gamers - the earbuds. As expected from HyperX, they did not disappoint in sound quality. The 20-20kHz frequency matches well with crisp mids and decently-rounded highs.

The Cloud Earbuds are supposed to feature an in-ear design, however, I can’t say that this is actually the case. They don’t actually go inside the ear, but rather they sit just over the ear cavity. My ears weren’t sealed and there’s no vacuum inside, but this doesn’t pose much of a problem. We didn't like the idea of putting a single button in-line remote though. It's a multifunction button that controls play/pause, answering calls. We missed a dedicated volume button and a microphone switch, given that it is a gaming headset. Next, we went with a classic, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which would be slower-paced and more immersive. Upon entering a nearby tavern, the music sung by a bard was clear and the instruments were not piercing to the ear. The sound was well-rounded and could even be compared to that of headphones. What’s in the Box? Music also sounds decent on the Cloud MIX Buds, though earbuds aren’t ever my first choice for music. These earbuds have 12mm drivers — a good size for earbuds — and did a pretty good job of separating mid-range tones while maintaining fullness and warmth. I actually thought these earbuds were a little too warm overall, but at least the bass didn’t end up too muddy or distorted. Audio on the Cloud MIX Buds is pretty good, especially for earbuds — when they’re connected. I pulled the zipper of the pouch and was greeted with a lovely sight of the IEMs very neatly contained inside. Upon closer look, it turns out to be fastened together with a cable tie. I like this a lot, as it prevents tangling and keeps it from spilling out once you’ve opened the very compact case. The inside of the pouch While we’re talking about deluxe, the 3.5mm plug actually sports a shiny gold plating, intended to prevent rust from forming. It’s quite interesting to see in which areas HyperX chose to put in the more lavish details. Comfort The Cloud Earbuds when wornWhat makes it good for gaming is its lightweight nature and wired setup as it reduces latency and doesn't rely on the battery for power. Its plug and play feature makes it a better choice for gamers who want to play games remotely without worrying about the battery. The sleeve protects the charging case and the wireless dongle when you’re not using it. (Image credit: Tom's Hardware) HyperX claims up to 33 hours of battery life for the Cloud MIX Buds; this is slightly misleading in the way all companies are slightly misleading about the battery life of true wireless earbuds, because it includes the charging case. But while they show promise in portability, many are still hesitant to make the switch from over-ear headsets to gaming earbuds.
