About this deal

A recent Rogal Dorn Battle Tank rules preview also revealed the Guard are getting a new Turret Weapon rule that’ll allow its tanks to fire their main, turret-based guns at faraway targets even if there are enemy units fighting them in melee. Imagine, if you will, the industrial efficiency and mechanised assaults of the Armageddon Steel Legion. Now combine that with the grim demeanour and unflinching sacrifice of the Death Korps of Krieg. What if you added the refined weapons of the Vostroyan Firstborn to the disciplined firing lines of the Mordian Iron Guard? Catachan strength paired with Attilan speed? Yes please. Now that the 9th edition codex is in the wild, all Imperial Guard legacy rules are no longer legal for current edition play– but you can still use some of them in games at home, should you wish. Firepower is the name of the game in the Emperor’s armies, and this unit of three Heavy Weapons Teams is a great way to add an extra punch to your army. Each team can be assembled with a mortar, missile launcher, heavy bolter, autocannon, or lascannon, so you can tailor your troops to whatever you need blown to smithereens. Rogal Dorn Battle Tank As well as new sculpts of the Chaos Space Marine PossessedandChaos Cultists, there were threebrand new, gruesomely mutated kits: the ‘Accursed Cultist Mutants’ and ‘Accursed Cultist Torments’. Meanwhile, there was confirmation of long-standing rumors that the World Eaters traitor legion would have their own codex, and brand new models.

If standing with your fellow humans against all odds sounds like your cup of recaff, read on for the latest new Astra Militarum models, details of their lore and tactics, Warhammer 40k codex releases, and more.

Also making T’au enthusiasts happyis this book’s success in making a far wider variety of potential T’au battle-plans and list-building options competitively viable after a long period wheremost lists were dominated by triple Riptidebattlesuits, Coldstar T’au Commanders, hordes of Drones, and not much else. Old favorites like Crisis Battlesuit squads, Devilfish transports, and Hammerhead gunships have been rejuvenated, and T’au-heads are loving it.

The armoury of the Astra Militarum is vast and covers many aspects of the equipment necessary for the survival of a fighting force in many different environments. It ranges from portable Vox-casters, communications units, to medals denoting promotion and excellence in battle. [3] Men, we are the first, last and often only line of defence the Imperium has against what is out there. You and that fine piece of Imperial weaponry you hold in your hands is all that is keeping humanity alive. Most of you will probably not live to see your second year in the Guard and most of you will probably never see your homeworlds again, but I can guarantee you that when you do fall, with a prayer to the most high and mighty God-Emperor on your lips, you will have earned the right to call yourself a man!" Combined with the mass manpower of the Whiteshields, Cadia Stands! allows Astra Militarum players to place huge units of durable Troops on critical objectives. All but the most brutal enemy units will struggle to shift 30 determined and dug-in soldiers, and the attention of such murderous foes will be fully occupied while the rest of the Astra Militarum does its deadly work.Space Marines were always going to be the longest book, with their 8,000,000 different units and bountiful sub-faction rules – but the 9th Edition codex is a seriously chonky tome, incorporating a whole raft of new rules from the Psychic Awakening series and the Adeptus Astartes’ own new Crusade rules. When the people forget their duty they are no longer human and become something less than beasts. They have no place in the bosom of humanity, nor in the heart of the Emperor. Let them die and be forgotten." Men and women charge screaming alongside their comrades into the mouth of hell, lasguns spitting death at the foe even as xenos munitions tear bloodied holes in the Human ranks. In a galaxy of never-ending warfare, what makes the perpetually outmatched men and women of the Imperial Guard so admirable is that they know near-constant fear, yet they lift their weapons, plant their feet, and fight on regardless. Their lives may be short and brutal, their sacrifices insultingly thankless, but it is because of the Astra Militarum that the Imperium continues to weather the storm of these dark times. Instead of constraining you to a single specific regiment, the new codex has you mix and match tactics to create your favourite flavour of Guardsmen. All you need to do is choose a pair of Regimental Doctrines to dictate how they fight. These doctrines represent traits like superior artillery skills, high-quality armour, impressive discipline amongst the ranks, or experience in guerilla warfare. Despite the technological immensity that the Astra Militarum can deliver to the battlefield, the cold fact of the matter is that the most important resource of the Guard is the seemingly limitless number of bodies it can deploy to contest its objectives - each imperial world is obligated to make available for recruitment 10% of its armed forces per year, and armies may be gathered from a 10,000 light-year radius. [11a] It does not matter the number of casualties it may take to win a battle. The Imperial Guard will devote many thousands of men to overcome a small goal as the Space Marines would devote a few hundred. Obviously, a Guardsman could never possess the battle prowess of a Space Marine, but there are many millions of Guardsmen for just that one Space Marine. [Needs Citation] Relics of the Astra Militarum

The Emperor required more manpower to ensure the momentum of the Great Crusade did not falter, and so the Imperial Army was created, known in High Gothic as the Imperialis Auxilia. As the Lord Commander Solar, Arcadian Leontus sits among the highest echelons of the Imperium, boasting an unimaginable roll of titles, peerages, ranks, and probably a whole gaggle of attendants tasked solely with ensuring that his horse has enough cyber-hay. The genetically-enhanced Strife Epoch regiments came to form the nucleus of the armed forces that would later support the even more genetically advanced Space Marine Legions during their reconquest of the Human-settled galaxy. The Emperor began His conquest of Terra with the intent to reunite the warring techno-barbarian nations into a unified planetary government and then use Terra as the springboard from which to begin His reconquest of the galaxy under the aegis of an Imperium of Man dedicated to the Imperial Truth of progress and reason. There are 51 datasheets, including rules for the magnificent new Szarekh, the Silent Kingmodel, as well as theNecrons’numerous other glorious new models, all their new armyrules, Crusade content and other nuts and bolts.

Secondary Objectives

If any regiment survives for long enough, it can eventually receive reinforcement from children born to the Guardsmen who have been raised inside the regiment and can normally be expected to join it upon reaching the required age. These new recruits, officially designated as "probiters", but more commonly called Whiteshields, are formed into their own platoons where they receive their latter combat training by taking part in actual combat, until they are ready to join the regiment as Guardsmen proper. [5] Some Regimental Doctrines grant unique keywords, like EXPERT BOMBARDIERS or VETERAN GUERILLAS. These specialists are even better at employing powerful Stratagems that mirror classic fighting styles, such as the trap-setting proclivities of the Catachan Jungle Fighters or the flagrant disregard for subordinate safety displayed by Valhalla’s hard-nosed commanders. The force that would evolve into the Astra Militarum first came into being during the Horus Heresy. Since those days, in battles beyond number, countless Imperial soldiers have forged a roll of honour so mighty that an entire continent of Terra is given over to its immortalisation. Yet every victory is but a drop in an unending ocean of warfare, for new threats assail the Imperium every single solar day. Though huge portions of the Imperial Army turned Traitor during the Horus Heresy, faded frescoes proclaim that countless more stayed loyal to the Emperor, and a handful of regiments continue to claim descent from those ancient formations. Though no connection can ever be proved to such distant times, many guardsmen of the Era Indomitus feel an intense amount of pride that, like their forebears of ages past, they fight in the name of the Emperor. it followed a similar template to the Beast Snagga launch: the boxed set was available for a short time and included a limited-edition copy of the new codex, which released independently a few weeks after. Now it’s out in the wild, and includes a multitude of datasheets, Strategems, Relics, Warlord Traits, and more for the most fastidious enforcers of Imperial might.

The World Eaters area bloodthirsty Chaos Space Marine legion pledged to the blood god Khorne. The codex released alongside revamped, plastic Khorne Berzerkermodelsand a spectacular new model for the World Eaters primarch, Angron. Our reviewer Tim Linward was practically champing at the bitto build an army afterhis World Eaters codex review– they look like a fun force to see out the edition. The Grey Knights and Thousand Sonsreleased in August 2021, followed by a standalone release of the Orks codex in September.

The Astra Militarum is ultimately run by the Departmento Munitorum, who have three seats on the council of the High Lords of Terra. It provides all the supplies, equipment, training, and also some of the representatives sent to worlds with an Astra Militarum presence. While they do not directly control the prosecution of Imperial military strategy, they have devolved power to different sections of the Imperium, at the planetary level, subsector level and sector level. Each world compares the threat posed to them against a previously defined threat-level and if it is deemed dangerous enough, the threat is passed to the subsector level and troops from surrounding worlds may be mobilised. If the threat increases further a full scale request to the sector level can see hundreds of worlds mobilising and converging on one system or group of systems. [3] Wearied by the horrors of war and the Imperium’s brutal demands, the Lord Solar knows that he may never see the fruits of his tireless efforts. Nevertheless, he continues to lead from the front – armed with his pistol Sol’s Righteous Gaze, and his power sword Conquest. At the moment, however, we’re in the opening act of 10th Edition 40k, and only two factions – Space Marines and Tyranids– have their 10th Edition codex release dates coming soon. Converting models or buying components to customise your models can be difficult with Warhammer 40,000, as many armies are designed in ways that make them completely unlike anything available out there on the market.
