About this deal

Adult beginners who want to start on the classical guitar – including those revisiting the guitar after a gap of some years – typically look for an affordable guitar that is not too basic. Both Yamaha and Cordoba offer a few choices and we can look at two of them in particular – the former’s popular CG142C or CG142S (cedar or spruce top) and the latter’s C3M (cedar or spruce top).

Another important thing to ask is how is the guitar setup out-of-the-box. This is a crucial thing as most beginners have no clue about guitar hardware setup. The Cordoba C7 is also meant for an advanced beginner or early intermediate guitarist. Not just price, but in terms of tonal quality and general handling, the C7 will be more appreciated by a guitarist with some experience. Its solid top of cedar (as against laminated wood) is already a step up from the novice world. The GC12 is known for its bright sound. You expect the sound to mature with age as with guitars of this caliber. Guitars at this price range have a bone saddle, but the GC12 has one made of Urea. The word doesn’t sound too good to my ears but I’ve learned it is indeed a very good material for the job. (If it bothers you still, you can replace it with a bone saddle.) The choice of high-quality tone woods lends subtlety to the sound. The ebony fretboard has a good touch. Great tuners. This is certainly the next level of guitar for an intermediate guitarist. One of the least conventional looking options on here, the Yamaha Silent Classical Guitar is great for those that don’t want the volume usually associated with an acoustic instrument. Playing this unplugged, you can hear it, but people in the next room probably won’t, so you’re not going to bug them whilst you’re perfecting your scales and exam pieces. In spite of the low-price tag of both of the guitars, they have amazing tone and playability. Other than that, Yamaha C40 and Yamaha C40II look really similar. If you have not seen them before, there is a good chance that you will have a hard time telling which one is which.

The Yamaha C40 is a classic among full-size classical guitars. It’s made to be affordable for learners to enjoy. Itcosts less because it’s built from wood laminates and factory-made, not hand-crafted. While the sound it makes is very good, it’s not as powerful as a fully wooden handmade guitar can produce. A high level of craftmanship and great attention paid to detail results in instruments of outstanding quality. The C series guitars provide excellent cost performance for beginners and young learners with exceptional playability and superb tone. Durability, Stability There is an interesting variant to the C40 which is the CS40 (don’t miss the ’S’ presumably for ‘small’). This is the very same guitar otherwise but its scale length is what Yamaha terms three-fourths. Or, 580 mm instead of the full 650 mm. This will help adults with small hands or older children who’d like to lay their hands on the famed C40 guitar. For many owners, the GC22, cedar top or spruce, is a stand-out guitar from their previous one. They love the expression they can get out of it and the nuances it brings to their playing. As with all high end Yamahas, the GC22 has a well rounded, balanced sound with no particular leaning towards the basses. The basses, in fact, sound pure and rich on a typical GC22. Yamaha vs Cordoba. The issue is too broad and big to resolve. It is better to pit sub-brand against sub-brand, variant against variant to get relevant answers. That’s what we’ll do in this article.Users who have played both the GC22 and the GC12 (one rung below) say they sound pretty much identical, sharing a rich, resonant quality. It may then come down to whether you love the looks of Mahogany or Rosewood more. Yamaha is famous for its great-sounding , budget classical guitars. Its CGS102A is hugely popular with the teacher-parent-student community for it is a half-size model that is easy to play for a young player. Even though both makers claim ‘half-size’ for their respective models, it is to be noted that the lengths are different. Yamaha is appreciably shorter with a scale length of 21” (530 mm) as against Cordoba’s 22.8” (580 mm). I highly recommend this guitar to any first-time beginner who is looking to learn classical guitar. Even though this is a name-brand guitar, it’s very affordable and is a lot better quality than any guitar you can find online that doesn’t have a brand name attached. At this price level the saddle/nut is usually plastic. The C3M uses bone, found in higher priced guitars. The Spanish classic fan bracing under the top wood is an advanced feature as well

A full-size affordable classical guitar that is value for money. For someone stepping up from a 3/4 model or entering the classical world for the first time from the acoustic side, this is a good quality introduction to a solid top. I know of a guitar teacher who recommends the CG142 to his early stage students instead of going for a cheaper ’student’ guitar. Obviously this is meant for those who wish to take the classical guitar seriously as a hobby or otherwise. The guitar should serve them years. All 3 guitars are good choices for a beginner. A widely accepted opinion is that a young learner below 7 years of age will do well with a ‘half-size’ guitar. As many a grandfather who has gifted the CGS102A to a young one will attest, a smaller guitar makes learning easy and enjoyable. The guitar still has all the 19 frets, except they are closer to one another and easier to play. Adults with small hands (as also older children up to the age of 12 years) may find the three-fourths’ size CGS103A a good option. The price is affordable and the build is Yamaha

For later intermediates and advanced players, the GC42 is a perfect fit. In the Delcamp forums (with its luthiers, expert players and knowledgeable enthusiasts) there is a special fan group devoted to the Grand Concert Series. Such is the respect and following Yamaha has at its high end. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail.

Taylor is seeing some great successes from its Academy line, which promises the full-fat Taylor experience at a cost that makes them – at least relatively – affordable for the many. The Taylor Academy 12e-N is a superb nylon-strung option which provides the benefits of classical and flamenco styling with the ergonomic familiarity of a more standard steel-strung guitar.
