About this deal

Alessandro Vitale has done a great job in pitching Rebel Gardening to an understandable level with lots of useful information and encouragement. Many gardeners struggle with growing lettuce in the middle of summer; sitting in direct sunlight causes it to bolt and go into flower.

For now I shall leave you with this: the word "radical", whether you take it to mean reformist in the political sense, or unconventional in the cultural sense or just plain awesome in the 1970s teenage sense, derives from the Latin word "radix", meaning "root". Learn about Korean Natural Farming techniques, including how to make simple treatments that will nourish your soil far better than any chemical. Organic gardening expert Alessandro Vitale wants you to embrace the living soil and establish your own city eden where creatures and plants can coexist, in harmony with our modern lives.

Gives insight into the various planting methods and tells you how to sow, start, and save seeds and describes the various different types of seeds to choose from. The 270 page hardback book covers everything from optimising your space (great when you live in a flat or small city area) to ‘no dig’ gardening to increase bio diversity. You will need to sow at just the right time, which is when the last frost has passed and the soil is warm enough to welcome new seeds.

There is such a wealth of experience and information contained in the volume that doesn't fit into precise pigeonholes. We'll meet the people following in the muddy bootprints of Ebenezer Howard, creator of the original garden city, Letchworth: like the team behind Cardiff's vertical gardening project, How Green Is Your Alley? Having the power to be self-sustaining even in limited spaces is crucial to our autonomy as a black and brown community; we have been disconnected from our gardening/farming practices, and stewardship of our lands.

There are four sections - defining your small space, what to plant and how, maintaining your garden, and top plants for beginners. Perhaps there's someone in your life who's on a mission to change the world one vegetable patch at a time? From choosing what to grow to growing in small or vertical spaces, there is something for all types of gardeners. I appeared on BBC gardener’s world (Friday 2nd September episode) and I also worked with many different companies to cover the sustainability topic like Natwest, BBC Earth, BBC, Vans, Unilever etc.
