About this deal

In fact, this is the whole purpose of the Ryzen 5 + 3060 configuration that we have here, which opts for a slightly more limited CPU so it allows for extra headroom for the GPU, especially when overclocked. This Legion 5 Pro gets an efficient thermal module, with two fans, four radiators, and three heatsinks that spread over the components. It perhaps doesn’t feel as nice as the Legion 5 Pro or Legion 7 lineups as this is entirely made out of plastic, but with a rougher finishing that feels stronger than the kind used on the previous Legion 5 generation, which Id’ expect should age well. I wish Lenovo would implement a more usable mid-level Balanced profile and a more stable Quiet mode that doesn’t limit the CPU as aggressively, to prevent the stuttering that we noticed in our tests.

Lenovo Legion 5 17 with RTX 3060 in review: Strong gaming

Update: If interested, here are our thoughts on the updated 2023 Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (Intel) and Legion Pro 5 (AMD) models. The default setting is +100 MHz Clock +200 MHz Memory, and that leads to an up to 5% increase in GPU scores, without significantly impacting the noise levels or temperatures. For the software, I put a clean Windows 10 install on my unit and the Lenovo Vantage app, which then took care of all the updates. I was hoping for a reduction in noise and slight power limitations, like on other Legion laptops tested in the past, but that was not the case for this sample.

Our Lenovo Legion 5 17 performs relatively well in our stress test, which consists of running Cinebench R15 multi in a loop. This year Derek covered the entire range of Lenovo Legion laptops in several in-depth reviews, but I finally got my hands on a couple of these Legions and I’ll pitch in with a couple of thoughts and performance tests on two mid-range configurations that we haven’t looked at before. Still, I can accept those in this budget range; instead, what bothers me is the inconsistency in quality control with the unit that I have, even many months after this series was launched, with the buggy wifi connection and video drivers that eat into the battery life, as well as what I still consider to be unproperly polished fan/power profiles. This wraps out my time with this 2021 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro series, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on the series and feedback on my review, so get in touch in the comments section down below.Oh, and there’s another FHD 120Hz screen option available for the lower-tier configurations of the Legion 5. Unlike the 3050Ti variant we’ve already covered a few months ago, this 3060 is significantly more capable in games and GPU-intensive workloads, for roughly 200 EUR more over here in Europe. Afterall, the typical PC user doesn’t have to worry about getting snuck up on and embarrassed on someone’s gaming channel. The power button is also identical to the one on the standard Legion 5 lineup, with the colored always-on LED in it. Even in my youth I was already very enthusiastic about technology, and as a result I started building PCs, optimizing them, and writing programs while I was still in school.
