About this deal

Dress as the Yeoman of the Guard in this fantastic Female Beefeater Costume British London Fancy Dress.

In 1551, the ordinary was expanded to 200 men, of whom 100 were to be archers and 100 halberdiers, but these numbers were not maintained. The Beefeaters, as they are affectionately known, now proudly wear Charles III’s CIIIR cypher in red below a large red royal crown on the front of their daily Blue Undress outfits, in place of the late Queen’s EIIR cypher. Whoever made the black panel with gold embroidery just underneath the “plant badges”, did not understand that on the Yeoman Warders uniform this is meant to represent the stems and leaves of the thistle, shamrock and rose. Aims to deliver the next working day including Saturdays, but please note that 1st Class is not a guaranteed next day service.

The Yeomen Warders are often confused with The Sovereign's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard, the original "Beefeaters", a similar but distinct body. We originally assumed our new acquisition to be a ‘way out’ 1960s frock, maybe worn to a fancy dress party. The item of uniform that distinguishes The Yeomen of the Guard from the Tower Warders is the red cross-belt or baldric, worn from the left shoulder.

They are different from the Yeomen of the Guard, who accompany the Queen on state occasions and are the Queen's personal bodyguards. Based on the state dress of a real Tower of London guard, complete with Tudor hat, the clothing is fully removable, allowing the bear to be enjoyed in all his finery or simply as a stunning classic Merrythought soft toy. The State dress uniforms of Yeomen of the Guard are almost identical to those of the Yeomen Warders, but the Yeomen of the Guard can be distinguished by their cross belts worn from the left shoulder. The Yeomen of the Guard is set in the Tower of London during the 16th century, before the two corps were split apart; it concerns what are today the Yeomen Warders. For instance a costume booked from say Thursday, will be delivered on Friday, and collected on Monday. If you have any idea who might have worn our dress, please get in touch on our Twitter or Facebook handles. As of 2018, [32] the Yeoman Warder Ravenmaster of the Tower of London was retired Colour Sergeant Christopher Skaife (a former Drum Major with the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment), who took over from Derrick Coyle.

Each new Blue Undress uniform takes a minimum of 30 hours to complete, with the jacket weight ranging from 2. In 2009, sailors became eligible to join the Yeoman Warders after Queen Elizabeth II consented to a petition from the Governor of the Tower to allow Royal Navy senior ratings to serve. The Tower Hamlets was an area significantly larger than the modern London Borough of the same name, which owed military service to the Constable in his ex officio role as Lord Lieutenant of the Tower Hamlets. Wild’s reputation grew quickly, and he made clothes for some of the biggest names in show business, including Cliff Richard, Boney M. Yeoman Warders are the monarch’s personal bodyguard and have been since the 15th century when they were founded following the Battle of Bosworth, a crucial battle in the War of the Roses that saw King Richard III defeated. While this is the most-cited etymology, including by the Corps themselves, [8] some etymologists have noted the term's similarity to hláf-æta, the Old English term for a menial servant, lit. The earliest connection to the Royal Household came as a reference to the Yeomen of the Guard by Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, who frequented the Court in 1669. In 1509, Henry VIII decided to leave twelve of his old sick and infirm Yeomen behind in the Tower to protect it. Claims that the name derives from buffetier (an Old French term meaning "a waiter or servant" at a sideboard) are often mentioned, since one role of Beefeaters was to attend the king at meals. Founded after the Battle of Bosworth, it is the UK's oldest existing military corps and the oldest of the royal bodyguards.
