About this deal

More and more kettles are offering variable temperatures now. This is great for making different types of drink. For example, coffee should never be made with boiling water, as it burns and gives a more bitter taste. And, multiple temperatures can be good for other jobs, such as making a bottle for a baby or filling a hot water bottle without having to add cold water first. Most multi-temperature kettles have larger bases with the controls on them. Not so with the Cuisinart Signature Collection Multi-temp Kettle, which has everything built into its handle. That’s useful if you don’t have much space in your kitchen, as this kettle doesn’t take up any more room than a regular one. The Smarter SMKET01-US Electric iKettle may not be as expensive as many high-end smart kettles on the market, but it’s still a bit pricey. If you’re someone who only rarely drinks hot beverages, or doesn’t have stable Wi-Fi, then the cost may not be worth it. If you’re a coffee or tea aficionado, however, it may be the best thing you’ll ever buy.

Smarter iKettle 3rd Generation review | Ideal Home

In the end, I started setting it to a few degrees below the temperature I actually wanted. As with the previous generation, the Smarter iKettle 3.0 is able to at least retain its heat very well. When connected to a smart home network, the iKettle can detect when you’ve arrived home via your mobile’s signal. If desired, you can have hot water already starting to boil as you walk in the door. However, we’ve found that the savings aren’t all that they seem. Hot water taps, while convenient and stylish, are expensive to buy and often have hidden ongoing maintenance costs which outweigh any potential energy savings. The app isn’t the cleanest, in the sense that it assumes people will be setting up multiple Smarter-branded connected appliances – the company has a connected coffee machine in its product lineup – in multiple locations such as at home and in the office. As such, you’ll need to create a ‘Home’ or relevant location and assign your iKettle 3.0. Some kettles have fill indicators that are hidden behind the handle, making them hard to read. Look out for a large, clear windows if you want to be able to see at a glance how much water is left.

If you often make tea for one, or just want to save energy, look out for a kettle with a low minimum fill level (less than 300ml). Some kettles will force you to boil as many as four cups' worth in one go, leaving you waiting longer and wasting water and energy. Combined with this, as a specialist appliance, it is a slower boiler than most, taking around four and a half minutes for its positively dinky 800ml capacity. The iKettle 3rd Gen has a built-in water sensor that sends information to the app to alert you if there’s not enough water in the kettle. With a simple glance at your phone, you can easily decide if the iKettle needs a refill. You can even use the app’s Wake Up Mode to wake you up via an alarm and start boiling water at the same time.

kettle 2023: Our favourite rapid-boil, quiet and smart Best kettle 2023: Our favourite rapid-boil, quiet and smart

Taking a maximum of 1.7-litres, with a minimum boil of 500ml, this is a good-sized kettle. It can be hard to see the fill lines on the side of kettle, which are marked in litres only, not cups. From the front, there are buttons to select the temperature you want: 70°C, 80°C, 90°C and 100°C. Thanks to its 3,000W heating element, it also proved itself a speedy boiler in our group test, matching other similarly powerful models with its one litre boil time of 2 mins 20 secs. Rounding things out with a handsome, sturdy glass and stainless construction, the Attentiv won top marks from us.

Moreover, its 1.7-litre capacity is great for gatherings big and small, as is the fact it can boil one cup at a time for ultimate precision, or if things need to be done on a person-by-person basis. The Structure Kettle is also a fast boiler, taking roughly two and a half minutes for a litre, four minutes for full capacity and for one cup, just 45 seconds. One of the more expensive kettles on our list, the Zwilling Enfinigy Pro justifies its lofty price tag with an ultra-modern design, commendable suite of features and solid performance. This sleek, space age kettle placed highly in both our exterior temperature and heat retention tests. Its peerless dual-wall insulation helped it maintain an outside temperature of just 29.4°C in use, while keeping the water inside at 94.6°C five minutes after boiling. In terms of functionality, the Enfinigy Pro boasts variable temperature settings ranging from 40°C to 100°C and a 30-minute keep warm function, all programmable via the touch buttons on its base.
