When the family patriarch, Sam Roffe, was killed in a climbing accident, his daughter Elizabeth took over the company. Elizabeth Roffe, a bright young woman, believes her father was murdered and that an assassin is hunting her down. Eventually the book settles on one protagonist, Sam's neglected daughter, Elizabeth. As characters go she's kind of a wet noodle, reacting to events instead of making events happen. She's totally underprepared to take control of a multinational pharmaceutical company and must lean heavily on the shoulder of Rhys Williams, the intended love interest she has no chemistry with. As his other works this one too provides a fantastic read from the very beginning where the story begins with news of death of Sam Roffee, the president of a multinational company set by his ancestor. With his sudden death his daughter is becomes the sole heir of his billion dollar fortune. Elizabeth, who is very young, is forced to take the charge of his father’s business.

This breath-taking novel portrays grey shades of each character, making it impossible for the reader to figure out which one of them would be the real culprit. What interest me most in this novel, is the way the characters portray a different power hungry personalities. Joan has had enough of the city. After being mugged, she agrees to move with her boyfriend to his home town to finish her pregnancy and begin life as a family. Normally I enjoy Sidney Sheldon's particular brand of crazysauce but this book seems, well, rather tame compared to his usual work.

All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.One of my favorite scenes with the supporting characters showed how different people react to different opportunities: presented with the chance to become royalty, Lady Carise Sindian jumps at the chance, while Leia couldn’t care less. The degree to which characters do or do not emphasize the importance of royalty becomes much more important later on, and it’s established insightfully. Likewise, Leia’s pilot, Greer, clearly has her own story going on, which is revealed in small moments of standoffishness or self-sabotage that don’t detract from how likable she is. But Joan is an unreliable narrator with fuzzy memories and a penchant for shoplifting. Even Joan's best friend doesn't really trust Joan. At first I wasn't at all impressed with Joan's friend from her college days but by the end of the story I couldn't blame her for being frustrated with Joan, because I was also frustrated with her. There are only so many bad decisions and risks that a main character can take before I'm ready to throw in the towel and just give up on her. I slept on this review, not wanting to give it just 3 stars but woke up knowing that I didn't feel right rating it higher. And Joan...it's all your fault! [8] The other point of difficulty that I have is that the sounds are not very well mixed, yet. This is particularly true of the firework sound that goes off when you level up a skill. Whilst I appreciate that it is clear in letting the player know that they have increased a skill, it can be extremely jarring and took me off guard multiple times during my streams in which I was reviewing the game. The creators were intrigued by the idea of casting Kyle Chandler, whose on-screen persona in Friday Night Lights was warm and inviting, to play the ostensibly noble but deeply flawed John Rayburn.
