This was one of my favourite books growing up and I still enjoy reading it now! As I'd always known I wanted to be a teacher, I loved reading about the children's love of their teacher Mr Speed and I loved how much Mr Speed cared about his class and wanted them to feel safe and comfortable. I felt like it really inspired me to think that I wanted to be a teacher that children always felt safe around and that they could always talk to about anything.

As well as winning many awards for her books, including the Children's Book of the Year, Jacqueline is a former Children's Laureate, and in 2008 she was appointed a Dame.

William is very unintelligent in everything. Mr Speed gives him a prize for losing a spelling contest. Later Mr Speed tells a story about an eating contest he once won when he was at school, called the Enormous Mouthful Contest, and then the children have their own contest, and William wins it. But while I may not like Mr Speed much anymore, I like all the kids and their relatable problems. My favourite remains Lisa, the one JW didn't create but whose story by a twelve-year-old girl was entered into a competition, which it won, and was put into this book. Jacqueline is one of the nation’s favourite authors, and her books are loved and cherished by young readers not only in the UK but all over the world. She has sold millions of books and in the UK alone the total now stands at over 35 million!

Samantha's dad left her family and went off with his girlfriend. She has been very sad since then. Also she feels unpopular. After watching the notorious 18-rated film The Monster, an extremely violent and gory film, she cannot get her mind off it when sleeping. Mr Speed gives her tips on how to get rid of her nightmares with her special skill, football, and the dream goes. She then gets a dream about her and Mr Speed playing a game of football together.Natasha is disabled, uses a wheelchair and communicates via a voice machine. She wants to be in the school concert. She becomes friends with Lisa and they enter it with a song about worries. Lisa is lovely, kind, selfless, creative, artistic, and mature for her age, but she still loves fairy tales and fantasy, and disappears inside her imagination to escape horrible reality, like me! I felt so sad for her; for her problems at home with her family (content warning: domestic abuse). Thankfully JW may have given Lisa a happy ending in the subsequent story - Natasha's story, where they become friends! I hope she ended up alright, anyway - she deserves to be happy.
