About this deal
The iPad Pro 2021 12.9-inch isn’t for everyone. The biggest caveats are that it’s incredibly expensive, and that it’s an overwhelmingly large device for those who don’t need a screen this big. It works great when the iPad is in a holder, such as the Magic Keyboard case, on a desk, but the position is fundamentally flawed for other tablet use, and always has been. Inexplicably, Apple moved the camera on the new cheap iPad 10.2 (2022) to work better in landscape, but left it in the same place here. Fast-charging isn’t that remarkable on the iPad Pro 2021, which means it takes a little longer to charge than some Android tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. Its 18W charging is noticeably slower than Samsung’s top-end tablet, which supports 45W, and we found the tablet was capable of recharging from zero to full in around two hours and 45 minutes using the charger provided in the box. The display is one area where Apple has noticeably upped its game for the new iPad Pro 2021, with a top-end 12.9-inch screen. If you’d prefer a smaller premium tablet you can buy the 2021 iPad Pro 11-inch, but the screen tech isn’t as impressive on that device. The mini-LED screen of the iPad Pro 12.9-inch remains unique in Apple's tablet range. Apple refers to it as an XDR Display, implying that it's like an HDR (high dynamic range) screen, but even more x-treme. And, to be fair, when compared to other tablet (or the vast majority of laptop) screens, they're not wrong.

Up to 4K AirPlay for mirroring, photos and video out to Apple TV (2nd generation or later) or AirPlay 2–enabled smart TV FaceTime calling requires a FaceTime-enabled device for the caller and recipient and a Wi‑Fi connection. Availability over a cellular network depends on carrier policies; data charges may apply. Refurbishment procedures follow the same basic technical guidelines as Apple's Finished Goods testing procedures. includes either the Operating System originally shipped with the unit or, in some cases, a more recent version. The front of the tablet features a 12MP camera as well, which is sat along the top bezel of the device. This does prove a touch annoying when the product is in landscape, as the camera is no longer in the center of the display. Built-in accessibility features supporting vision, mobility, hearing, and cognitive disabilities help you get the most out of your iPad. Learn more aboutAccessibility It’s important to note that the new iPad Pro is big. The 12.9-inch display means this is a particularly large slate, and many will prefer the smaller 11-inch model, or something even smaller, like the iPad Mini 2019. If you’re happy with a larger design, you’ll also benefit from a larger display, more on which below. Supported formats include AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless, FLAC, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Atmos

That amount of storage is awfully low for a 'Pro' machine, but if you want more capacity or to add 5G for ultra-fast wireless connectivity anywhere, you'll need to account for further premiums. Apple Certified Refurbished Products are pre-owned Apple products that undergo Apple's stringent refurbishment process prior to being offered for sale. While only some units are returned due to technical issues, every unit is evaluated to ensure it meets Apple's quality standards. We’re reviewing the 1TB and 16GB model, and we’ve found it to be more than suitable for our needs, even for intensive tasks. The flat sides and right-angled edges look like they might be uncomfortable to clutch, but they're not at all, thanks to the corners themselves being ever-so-slightly rounded.
The biggest upgrade to the iPad Pro since its inception
We’ve yet to learn the exact size of the battery inside the iPad Pro 2021, but the battery life has proved strong during our testing time with the tablet. Some rumors claim the battery is bigger than the one in the 2020 edition, and that last-gen model had a 9,720mAh battery; we likely won’t know for certain until someone breaks open a new iPad Pro and looks inside for themselves. It's also fiddly, especially when used with your fingers. You might open an app and find that it appears in a small window on a screen with nothing else on – resizing it to fill the screen just feels like an unnecessary extra step. There's a shortcut to do this with two taps, but if you don't know to look for the dots at the top of a window, you'd have to drag using the control on the bottom corner, which is slow. Unlike with Apple’s iPhone 12 series of smartphones, you do get a charger included in the box with the new iPad Pro 2021. Exactly why Apple has decided to include chargers here but not with its iPhones is currently unclear. With the power of Apple Pencil (2nd generation), iPad Pro transforms into an immersive drawing canvas and the world’s best note‑taking device. It sets the standard for how drawing, marking up documents and even filling in text fields should feel — intuitive, precise and magical. The basic feature will not be a surprise to anyone who's used a drawing tablet – when you hold the Pencil close to the screen, the iPad can sense it and react. In an imaging app, such as Serif Affinity Photo, this manifests as a dot under the pen so you can see exactly where you're about to draw. ProCreate includes a smart feature that means you can change the size of your brush live while hovering, and even see color mixing results while hovering before you start drawing. On the other short edge is the sleep/wake button (though it can be woken by tapping the screen), and two more speaker vents. The new iPad Pro comes with iPadOS 16.1 – my review unit had the final release candidate version, so sported the full version of features, including Stage Manager. Technology is most powerful when everyone can use it. That’s why iPad comes with accessibility features that support vision, hearing, mobility and learning needs.
An almighty beast of a tablet, that becomes more niche as it gets more powerful and expensive
The M2 chip is obviously the main talking point here, and it's an absolute monster. It includes an eight-core CPU, featuring four high-speed performance cores and four energy-efficient cores. The front-facing TrueDepth camera enables Face ID, the world’s most secure facial authentication in a tablet — and in a computer. It also means you can chat with friends using FaceTime, take Portrait selfies or liven up your Messages conversations by turning yourself into an Animoji. The front camera is 12MP with an ultra-wide lens that’s used for Apple’s Center Stage feature. This means the camera actually crops into a portion of its total ultra-wide view, focused on you. If you move, the camera can follow you, as long you’re within the ultra-wide's view. It’s a clever and useful feature, and it adjusts automatically if there’s more than one person in view. iPadOS comes with powerful features and built-in apps designed to take advantage of the unique capabilities of iPad. The camera is unchanged from the previous model, apart from adding the ability to record ProRes video for the first time here. On the rear, you get a 12MP wide-angle cam, plus a 10MP ultra-wide, paired with a LiDAR sensor that can help with fast auto-focus, but can also be used for 3D scanning in various apps. These are mostly peripherals such as high-resolution displays, but it also means you can connect to faster external storage devices and other devices for further tasks.
