The speakers sound great, you can take it to anywhere from bed/sofa or even outdoor. The update made it possible to use class compliant audio interface to expand the audio in and out, so you can take a portable audio interface with you on the go too. You could build a mobile studio with all these features and maybe go to your friend place etc etc. The most notable addition to the MPC Live unit, though, is the speakers. They’re hard to miss, and have proven somewhat controversial among MPC users on forums and social media. The speakers were certainly a bold step. Aside from the Korg Volcas and the Novation Circuit, there are few other hardware synths with built-in speakers. Their inclusion on a professionally built MPC unit is certainly novel – and we couldn’t wait to try them. For producers looking to add a personal touch to their production, MPC Live II Retro features a built-in SD Card slot, a user-expandable 2.5-inch SATA drive bay for connecting SSD or HDD drives and USB thumb input for immediate access to your own sample libraries. Yes, but not many. You may notice some differences depending on your work style, though the main difference will be with VST support. MPC 2.0 supports VST plugins when used on your computer, however, these will be disabled when using the projects on the MPC X and MPC Live in standalone. Last and certainly not least is WayOutWare’s Odyssey. WayOutWare Odyssey is a spot-on reproduction of the classic analogue synth. Thanks to state-of-the-art circuit modelling of the OG’s fat oscillators and filter, all the character, warmth and nuance of the original has been faithfully captured. In addition to the original’s mono & duophonic modes, WayOutWare Odyssey can be played with up to 4 voice polyphony.
