About this deal

The tension between Nash and Vi builds as the reason for their break up slowly comes to light. I adored reading this book, and I’m so so excited for the second book in the series, The Sniper! I loved Nash’s character arc. He had to learn how to let Violet in and overcome his fear that once she knew all his truths that she’d look at him differently. But Nash grew a lot in their two years apart. I loved witnessing him realizing he had to fight for Violet this time and he wasn’t willing to lose.

However, fate seems to conspire against her as she is assigned to have her senior athletic internship with her ex’s team. She will now be working closely with Nash, the only man she ever loved but who had left her in a heap in her freshman year. I really really liked a lot of things about this book. First and foremost, I liked the fact that things were realistic and genuine. Violet put herself out there for Nash because she believed in him and truly loved him, she was patient with him and tried her best to understand his point of view on a lot of things.

Publication Order of Standalone Novels

Lastly, one thing that grated on my nerves more than anything, throughout the book was that, even while claiming to love each other, they went around and slept with different people. The conflict was not threaded throughout the plot enough. It would be non existent and then, bam, a chapter with one of the exes, and then they would go away and all would be well. The build of the conflict needed to start earlier and have a better build up. Because so much of the book was them in their happy phase, a lot of it read like we were just following along on their daily lives, little to no plot, character or relationship development. Violet grew just as much as Nash did in their time apart. She was more mature and able to express what she needed from Nash. She knew when to push Nash for more information and was able to let him tell her things in his own time. Moreover, the coach knows too much about him and he is sure the last thing he would want is for him to date his daughter. His avoidance strategy has been working but then Vaugun starts failing calc and he finds himself being tutored by Luna Ward.

There was mention of Bailey having trouble having Os. His response was amazing, but I expected this to play out in the bedroom, but nope. Immediately orgasming with him every single time. I really wanted it to happen because we never ever see this. Women don’t always have orgasms or struggle to have them, and it would have been so amazing to see this in a book. The only thing worse than having a ‘one that got away’ is knowing you’re the one who pushed her to leave.” Nash and Violet meet at a party during freshman year and fall head over heels in love… only for Nash to break everything good they had… along with Violet’s heart! The thing is… he broke his own heart too because Nash has baggage and an unbearable past that has him running away when things get too real! i’d like everyone to take at least a second to appreciate the maturity and patience and outright restraint of this heroine. if a 6’4 monstrosity of muscle covered in tattoos and chiselled features was sitting half naked in front of me, you can bet your ass my ass has assumed the position #shameless. vi possess demonic levels of self-restraint my thirsty ass does not apparently.i’ve been living my best life with a massive headache. in other words: a dry spell, a book slump, that doesn’t want to quit no matter what. I also really loved their cooperation with each other. Violet wasn't the only patient one, Nash was as well. He tried his best to be the guy Violet deserved, he went out of his comfort zone and even tried opening up little by little so there would be no fatal mistakes again. The whole aspect of Nash only loving her and only showing himself to her was one of the best parts of this book, I couldn't get enough of it.
