The Sword in the Stone is one of my favourite Disney movies, so of course I had to read the book(s) eventually too. And doing it though audiobooks was definitely the right choice because the narrator made my life. All in all, T. H. White’s novel displays a somewhat loose, slow-paced plotline and focuses on atmospheric and idyllic descriptions of the forest and countryside, the sky and stars, the techniques of jousting and falconry, the seasons that come and go, the pranks and funny episodes, the songs and fairytales by the fireside. It is a utopian and delightful book for all ages, that reads as a mellow, decorative and nostalgic reverie around the legends of young Arthur, with a narrator that is always gently present and introduces subtle and unworried references to the 20th century — never hinting at the fact that the book was written just before World War II’s darkest hours. It has very little to do with Le Morte d’Arthur : it instead made me think of the old infancy gospels (the legendary Apocrypha around the childhood of Jesus) or, even more, of the idealised images of the Middle Ages in the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. Obviously (quite explicitly in fact), the story of this young Wart is also in line with the tale of Cinderella. If you decide to read this, look for an unabridged edition with the author's illustrations. I read the Time-Life edition. There should be lots of words and terms you've never encountered before. Unless, of course, you are an expert on Norman England, falconry, hunting boars, long-ago dog breeds, tilting, jousting and medieval butchery. Most readers know, at least heard of, some format of this story. I know I’ve read various abridged books to my children when they were young. Perhaps you’ve seen the 1963 Disney film adaptation The Sword in the Stone. I decide to listen to an audio format narrated by Neville Jason after seeing the book on Guardian 1000 Books to Read and 1001 Children’s Books to Read list. The book touches very important topics for children: honor and respect. The idea of honoring and respecting one's elders, telling the truth, and being brave are excellent behaviors to expose young readers to.

On February 27, 2020, Sword In The Stone debuted their own parade float for the first time in Disneyland's parade, Magic Happens. The film makes a cameo appearance on Once Upon a Time in the episode " The Dark Swan" as the film a young Emma goes to see and receives a cryptic warning from a disguised Merlin. He was an English master at Stowe School from 1930 to 1936 and died aboard a ship in Piraeus, Greece, on January 17. Mr. White was 57 years old. He was returning home to England after a lecture tour in the United States. The story is very well crafted and I loved how Wart learns from animals and plants and people like Robin Wood (nono, of course he isn't Robin Hood).

I haven’t read The Sword in the Stone for [spoiler removed] years. It has been far too long. I’d forgotten how good it is, funny, deliberately anachronistic (and brilliantly so) and moving at the end. T.H. White’s Merlin is right up there as my favourite characterisation of the great wizard, no mere Obi Wan Kenobi of a mentor, but a being who has a very complex story all in itself as he traverses life in reverse time. TH White's version of the King Arthur myth is...unusual. It's not a straight up retelling of the tale that tries to pinpoint any kind of actual date upon when the "real" King Arthur lived and base the story in that period. It floats about, taking little bits of history from here, a legend or two from there, and cobbles them together. It makes for an interesting fantasy. He said that Arthur would listen to his teachings and was very interested in what he taught. He thought that Arthur would someday be a great man. The author of poems, books about hunting and other sports, and some detective stories, he found fame and success with ‘The Sword in the Stone’ (1939), the brilliantly imaginative retelling of King Arthur’s early life.The Sword in the Stone study guide contains a biography of T. Dissertation reread time! I acquired a distaste for T.H. White sometime during my MA, and I'm not sure exactly why: rereading The Sword in the Stone, I still rather loved it, with its gentle humour and the character of the narratorial voice and its understanding of each character. I note that in my first review I noticed the way it treats Kay, which is a good sign for this dissertation... Merlin is a recurring character in the Kingdom Hearts series, appearing in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. He is voiced by Jeff Bennett.I am glad that I read this classic and I want to finish the Once and future King. There is a lot going on here and much of it is the myth of King Arthur. I feel like this was written for a different time and when it was written it revolutionized the Arthurian Myth.
