About this deal

The recent launch of the 80 Plus Platinum rated HXi series power supplies coupled with the impending launch of the 1200W HX1200i power supply may leave some end users wondering whether they should go with an HXi series unit or step up to the incumbent AXi series. If your power target is 1000W, then the decision is clear – you go for the HX1000i – but at the other points, things may be a little foggier. Cable quality is excellent with the majority of the cables being flat ribbon style, for ease of routing in a system build. The ATX cable is sleeved.

The second major difference is architectural: the AXi series feature fully digital power regulation. While the HXi series is no slouch, the AXi’s power regulation is slightly cleaner. More than that, because the AXi’s power regulation is handled by a DSP (digital signal processor), an AXi power supply will be vastly more user-configurable in Corsair Link. dgianstefaniNo 16 pin, moronic. Why would you need a "16-pin" (I take it you mean the 12+4-pin 12VHPWR connector) on the PSU side. FREMONT, CA, July 12th, 2022 – CORSAIR ® (NASDAQ: CRSR), a world leader in enthusiast components for gamers, creators, and PC builders, today announced the 2022 models of the HX1500i and HX1000i Fully Modular Ultra-Low Noise ATX Power Supplies, delivering unwavering 80 PLUS Platinum-certified power for today’s most demanding and ambitious systems. Using a fully digital platform to provide unparalleled performance and advanced features such as control over fan curves and power settings integrated into CORSAIR iCUE software, the HXi Series is ready to power your new premium PC build running the latest 12th Gen Intel ® Core™ or AMD Ryzen™ processor and high-performance graphics card. While the PCB is, on the whole, amazingly tidy, there is a small section to the main power input that’s a little untidy. Truthfully, it looks like there was a fair bit left to fix here while having the overall problem of running out of real estate space. – Despite this one small aspect, however, the rest of the design and layout is more than a little impressive. The exhaust panel to the Corsair HX1500i offers plenty of ventilation which should, all going well, help promote the built-in passive aspects of this PSUs cooling operation. – Nope, no ‘ZERO RPM’ functionality here with Corsair taking the (in my opinion far more sensible option) of just letting the pre-set configuration handle cooling while offering additional support (if needed) via their i-CUE software. With these new flagship models Corsair has integrated iCUE functionality to allow the end user to adjust fan curves, as well as to monitor and adjust power settings. The new HXi range also utilise ZERO RPM mode to stop the fan spinning and to reduce noise when lower loads are in place. A 450W RTX4090 may draw close to a kilowatt on very short bursts. 450W is the maximum stable power draw. How unfortunate. How's that Seasonic 1500W or Seasonic ATX3.0 PSU going? Thanks for clarifying JG. ZetZetwhat about FSP? They're an oem, but obviously they only announced them so far.Right, have to see something tested first. FSP is usually solid but I don't trust anything PSU until I've seen a review from someone reputable.

While we can’t configure OCP points on a per +12V rail basis like we can in the AXi, we can still toggle single and multiple +12V rail operation on the HXi. Like with the AXi series of power supplies, the HXi ships as a multiple +12V rail power supply by default. Next we want to try Cross Loading. This basically means loads which are not balanced. If a PC for instance needs 500W on the +12V outputs but something like 30W via the combined 3.3V and +5V outputs then the voltage regulation can fluctuate badly. Cross Load Testing Technically the HX1500i passed all our tests without any problems. Its efficiency meets 80 Plus Platinum certification and the design copes well with difficult cross load stress conditions. The unit was able to deliver close to 1700 watts – around 200 watts more power before safely shutting down. Ripple suppression is also class leading.

The Corsair logo and product name are highlighted in white along the side of the power supply chassis. The Corsair HX1500i meets the competition more efficiently than its small sibling, the HX1000i. Still, the performance difference with the flagship AX1600i is significant, but the price difference between these two models is also vast, at 210 dollars. The HX1500i achieves high enough overall performance, although I expected more from its semi-digital platform. The iCUE compatibility also provides it with several interesting features, including the option to set up a custom fan speed profile, should the default not fit your needs. I am not sure how many users will bother with the complex iCUE app, but the options are there for those who have the patience to fiddle with them. Despite being so busy, however, cable insertion and removal is surprisingly quite easy thanks to each of the ports being as well spaced out as they possibly can be. I did, a focus 550W gold full modular - spark shown in less than 2 months. Waited 6 months got a focus 550W gold semi-modular - spark show after 10 months. Previous PSU was a corsair HX 620W lasted 8 + years. Put a 660W Ion+ Platinum in there now (sons PC). I was a seasonic fan until then. It's a challenge to find what ATX ver they build any of their PSU's to. Good thing for the warranty. Doesn't help the burnt electronics smell in my house though. Used a PSU tester (hooked up the 24pin - cpu - gpu - molex cables on the tester) everything seems fine voltage wise correct? see picture. But the PG (Power Good Delay) sits at 90ms. Is this the normal value or within spec for the HX1500i?Unfortunately, one highly expected feature missing from both units is the addition of the new 16-pin power connector that will be used on next-generation GPUs. It will likely coexist with the current 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors we have today, at least for a while, but where the 8-pin connector is rated for up to 150W, the 16-pin connector can provide a whopping 600W of power. The other hot issue at the moment is Citrix Workspace. Users with CUE 4.33 and this installed are losing devices and sensor data. CORSAIR iCUE software opens up a range of detailed control options for the HXi Series, so you can fine-tune your power supply to your needs. Use iCUE to create custom fan curves to dictate at which temperatures you want the fan to ramp up, monitor your power output and efficiency in real-time, and toggle between single or multi-rail overcurrent protection (OCP) on-the-fly. The Corsair HX1500i ships in a heavy yellow box with a high resolution photograph of the power supply on the front along with some basic details.

LOL! Joke's on them. Owen1982And custom fan curves? Erm, sure, that won't go wrong :) (I hope it's not that dumb to cook itself). It's really not much different than the "ECO Mode" button, but it's software instead of a button. You can set the starting RPM to whatever you want instead of zero RPM, but if the fan NEEDS to ramp up higher, it will. Owen1982Just buy Seasonic (yes I am a Seasonic fan boy lol). How unfortunate. How's that Seasonic 1500W or Seasonic ATX3.0 PSU going? This new connector is something we expected on Corsair's new flagship units, with other PSU brands already implementing the 16-pin several months ago into their new PSU models. This shouldn't be a huge problem, since 8-pin to 16-pin adapters will likely ship with most of the upcoming GPUs to make the transition easier on older PSUs, but such adapters are messier than native PSU support for the new standard.

Part Analysis

Today to test the power supply we have taken it into our acoustics room environment and have set our Digital Sound Level Noise Decibel Meter Style 2 one meter away from the unit. We have no other fans running so we can effectively measure just the noise from the unit itself.
