About this deal

Ending to the sound of a smattering of applause, the three-and-a-half-minute release is certain to please the singer’s diehard fanbase, who have been eagerly waiting to hear new music from Bonfire of Teenagers. Sissay and Simic will live cheerfully as neighbours in my collection; their love of whimsical imagery and unexpected conjunctions is something they share. Everyone has moved on though, their act of rebellion now to stick with what they know and continue to improve, and here they do so by rounding out a fine and sensible addition to the jangle pop genre.

The Independent on Sunday says of his work: 'His poems are the songs of the street, declamatory, imaginative, hard-hitting .except what sets this apart from the smiths is that the production on anything the smiths made wasn't absolute dogshit. Most of these 44 poems are political and angry, in a way that would certainly be mesmerising for the right audiences. After writing four songs that Chris, Mark, Mickey and Mikey were all pleased with they needed someone to capture the renewed sound that they successfully cultivated. Manchester is more than a poetic subject for Sissay, the city is also where he started out as a community activist and literature development worker with Cultureword, the collective black publishing project.

Several weeks ago, Morrissey’s shows across the UK were sold out in which those in attendance were treated to many new tracks from the upcoming release. It is this painfully personal experience of growing up without knowing his parents that marks much of Sissay’s poetry to date. This sounds like an un-produced master demo (if anything like that exists in the world of recorded music). It was even worse if you were young and black - your future was hopeless and this collection represents that.
