Use the Micro Amp as a permanent boost effect, or ramp up your signal when you're playing lead so your solos soar above the rest of the mix. My favourite use is after fuzz/drive, at about 11 o'clock, with the guitar volume knob rolled half way down. Then as you move away from the nulls, the controls progressively begin to “bite” and do their thing. With its Gain knob, the Micro Amp+ allows you to dial up just as much gain as the original-up to +26dB-but with added EQ controls, you can now finely sculpt your boosted signal. Like you, though, I'd debate the merits of such a device on grounds that I don't see much point in trying to make different guitars sound the same. Strangely, at the time, there weren’t that many alternatives to the Micro Amp other than from the Electro‑Harmonix Linear Power Booster (LPB).
With the sturdy housing and durable components that MXR is known for, this pedal is ready for the road. There's plenty of gain to allow you to push a single-coil guitar's sound up to that point where it becomes phat and sustainy. The MXR M133 Micro Amp is an effects box that lets you boost your signal using a single control knob.
The Gain control works similarly: there’s plenty of subtle travel down near the bottom, allowing you to use the Gain control for fine gain makeup.
