About this deal

Find out about a range of fence paints and colours here. What is a fence paint? The answer isn’t as straight forward as you might think Ronseal Fence Life Plus+ in Sage is a water-based paint designed to provide excellent protection and a stunning finish for your fence. With built-in UV protection, your fence will maintain its vibrant colour for longer. The 5-year weather protection formula ensures that your fence remains in top condition, guarding it against rain, wind, and other environmental factors. Personal preference of course plays a huge part in what colour paint you should choose. But there are a couple of things to bear in mind on top of that: Choosing a Colour Based on Function This fence paint is intended for use on rough-sawn timber, so it’s suitable for painting a lot of different exterior wood like wood stores, sheds and fences. However, it’s not recommended for smoother wood like garden furniture.

There is no need to have multiple products to make your metal fence look as good as new, as this one does it all, and can act as a primer, undercoat, and topcoat, and the results are outstanding, leaving you with a wonderful shiny, gloss finish. Fence Stains: Water and oil-based fence stains are very much like garden paints. They seal, protect and weatherproof wooden fences and are available in a range of colours from brands such as Ronseal, Cuprinol and more.

Garden Fence FAQ’s

This fence paint is designed to offer long lasting protection to your fence – it contains algaecides and fungicides to fight off mildew and will also help prevent weather damage. As a result, this is the best fence paint for those living in exposed areas, helping protect the wooden fence from rain, frost and snow. It also has good resistance to sunlight, retaining its rich colour even after a long summer. Using a fence paint is a great way to add colour and character to gardens. In fact, many displays at national gardening shows and events demonstrate how painting a fence can enhance and transform outdoor living spaces. And, with so many garden paint colours to choose from, there’s no limit to what can be achieved. The medium oak fence paint, specifically, is highly favoured by homeowners because it imparts an air of sophistication to any fence while ensuring dependable protection. Moreover, this water-based fence paint is free of harsh chemicals, rendering it safe for use around pets and plants. You can even apply this paint to wooden planters for a revitalized appearance.

UV Protection: Ronseal Fence Life Plus+ provides reliable UV protection to ensure long-lasting colour and minimize fading. Onto the colour – this Slate Grey fence paint offers a contemporary, rich finish. It’s a deep colour and the paint applies well, so it often only needs one coat. Drying Time: The drying time of 2-4 hours is a bit longer than some other fence paints, which might require more patience during the painting process. Another element to consider is that, if you’re covering over a strong colour, this may also dictate whether another coat is required. Again, you’ll know once your fence has dried. Anything else to consider?Available in four different colours, and each one looking fantastic, a 5-litre can should give you enough paint for about five 6x5ft fence panels if you’re giving them a double coating, and I recommend that you do, especially if you want the paint to last for years to come. I know the advertising claims you can do 10 panels of that size, but that would be with a single coat and I do think bare timber (or timber previously a different colour) needs two, take a look at a couple of examples here from earlier today covering new timber (in the video) and an old gate: I’m not going to go through Creocote entirely as I covered it in the shed paint section as well as the fence paint testing here. As you can see from the pictures, the colour of the wood is enhanced beautifully, and water really beads and drips off lovely. What is more, from testing I found it goes much further than Cuprinol and Ronseals two different paints. Here’s a look at the fence panels before and after painting: Finally, the coverage: one litre of this paint can cover up to 6m², so the 5L pot should contain enough paint to cover 30m²– approximately six shed panels (depending on how many coats you have to do). Cuprinol will likely need to be heavily diluted if used with a paint sprayer, so there is a possibility that another coat will be required in that case. Two coats might also be needed if painting over a darker colour, or applying the paint on fresh wood. Find further, general information and advice on other garden fence treatments here.
