About this deal

The game ends after 10 minutes - that is, at the end of the third countdown. If any adventurer is inside the temple when it collapses, then all players have lost the game! Certain chambers have magic gem icons. Next to each gem icon is a combination of dice symbols – usually four keys or four torches. If you manage to roll those symbols while in the gem chamber, you ‘activate’ one gem. Take one gem from the gem depot and place it in the chamber. Congratulations – you’ve just made it easier to escape! Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a fantastic dice exploration game (or diceploration, if you want to go there). Its mechanics are well designed and laid out in an easy-to-understand way, which makes this an excellent family board game. What would be too much : Robinson Crusoe, while being a great cooperative game, there’s just too much strategy and not enough action. After a short introduction, the game begins with the command "Escape!" Immediately start rolling your dice and do not forget that you have only 10 minutes to escape! to the mechanisms of the game.

Escape: The Curse of the Temple gets bonus points for including two expansions with the base game. The game plays perfectly well without them (and this is how I would guess most people will play it), but it’s great to have a built-in ability to up the difficulty when the time comes. First I’m going to say: buy this game. Buy it, because there’s nothing like it in your board game library and you WILL find this fun, trust me. The 10 minute timeframe immediately brings to mind Space Alert, another timed coop. Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a much lighter, more casual game than Space Alert. You can have the game setup, rules explained, and game started in under 10 minutes (often Space Alert requires that just to get the board arranged). As one would expect, this ease of learning/play means Escape: The Curse of the Temple doesn’t grab you quite the same way. I don’t feel nearly as much tension, and there isn’t as great of a need to communicate. This doesn’t mean Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a bad game or should be avoided, it’s just lighter, and thus more accessible.

Be silent. You’re not allowed to talk. If you want to communicate, you’ll have to use other means, like pointing and such. The dice rolling mechanic is NOT just chance, you have to think twice and use strategy to cooperate with other players. Adventurers who are in the same chamber may help one another. For example, if a player rolls a golden mask and doesn't use it for himself, one other player may use it to break the spell on up to two of his accursed dice. Escape: The Curse of the Temple is real time game, which means you’re not going to be waiting patiently for your turn. Everyone’s going to be in a dice-rolling frenzy, all at the same time. To activate gems, different rooms have different requirements. Once these are met, you can take the gems from the depot and place them in the room you activated them from.

While not as desirable as the Ark of the Covenant, Holy Grail, or Crystal Skull, Escape: The Curse of the Temple's components are nonetheless excellent quality.

Object of the Game

And don’t leave others behind in your race to escape because if only 1 person fails to escape the temple, the whole group loses! Since Caleb loves to even play it by himself, he’s the perfect one to show you how to play Escape The Curse of the Temple in this video review. If it is a topic that has not yet been covered, you can most likely find more information here on your topic of choice. From official Escape: The Curse of the Temple useful links to very unofficial ones. After the door slams shut, you can continue to explore the temple, proceeding from the chamber where you're currently located. The third count- down starts with three bangs of a gong and ends with the sound of the temple collapsing; this signals the end of the game after exactly 10 minutes.

Example: Frank has rolled his dice and uses the two adventurer icons to enter the next chamber. 2. Discover a chamber What would not be enough: Mice and Mystics would be out of a question, because there’s too many rules to teach, for zero action and not enough strategy. Professionals: 6 additional magic gems. The action "Provoke a turn of fate" is no longer available. I have played this about 10 tens now and the novelty has worn off. You find that in a panic some people are just not honest and wizz around without really throwing the correct dice, easily done.To escape, you have to roll the number and one extra of ‘key’ symbols as there are magic gems left in the depot (i.e. if there were 5 gems left, you’d need to roll 6 keys to escape). Clearly, with a game that only lasts 10 minutes, you need a rapid set up. And that’s what you get with Escape: The Curse of the Temple It was published in 2012, but we finally bought a copy this summer. And already it’s closed in on one of our most-played board games this year.
