About this deal

This vintage stomp box gained popularity among musicians who appreciate subtlety. It was originally designed as the younger brother of MXR’s widely successful Phase 90 pedal. But I’m happy to say that MXR hasn’t made the same mistake and they’ve been pumping out the Phase 90 since the early 80s. In fact, they’ve only expanded their range of variations on this iconic pedal. The JF 06 Vintage Phase pedal is similar in design to the MXR Phase 90. The most obvious difference being it comes with a smaller price tag! The first pedal on our list that doesn’t come in luminous color, the Small Stone catches the eye with its bold design and unique ‘color’ switch.

Flexible enough to sound great on both sides of heavy gain. Compact enclosure and smart, simple control layout. Nice price. Pedals like phasers and flangers are more often associated with rhythm instruments- electric guitar, electric piano, and keys. Even vocals!Produced in a similar orange metal casing, the unit uses a similar speed control with a simple on/off switch. Its traditional phaser sound, which you have already experienced on many albums, will sound instantly comfortable and simple to work with. Structure and Design Quality Like most things in music, there are no rules! But there are still some important things to keep in mind when it comes to placing your phaser in your signal chain. Generally speaking, a phaser should go towards the end of the chain after your reverbs and delays. This is because the ‘notched’ effect can become obscured by overdrive and modulation effects later in the signal path. In music and audio production, a phaser is a primitive electronic effect that warps a sound with some multi-banded phase shifting that creates artificial peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum. And here’s the vintage sci-fi connection: The result is a sound with a spacey, electronically-distorted quality. It’s been used to great effect to create a robot voice, as with C-3PO.

Some guitarists prefer MXR Phase 90 primarily due to its clarity and adore it. In contrast, modern gamers will at least find the absence of options to be an annoyance. Then you have the Phase 95 which allows switching between 45 and 90 phase shift modes, and the Phase 99 has dual outputs, each with a dedicated rate. By varying the two and sending the output stereo, you could dive into some truly deep and spacy environments! Elector Harmonix Phaser Pedals Of course, if you’re a tone freak, you’ll probably favor an analog phaser, but we’d say, either way, go into it with an open mind and don’t form an opinion until you’ve tried a selection of pedals. When Should I Use My Phaser Pedal? The unit also has true bypass meaning there is no coloration to your guitar tone when the effect is switched off. 3. BOSS PH 3 Phase Shifter MXR is a New York–based manufacturer of effects pedals from Rochester. The company was co-founded in 1972 by Keith Barr and Terry Sherwood [1] [2] and incorporated as MXR Innovations, Inc. in 1974. The MXR trademark is now owned by Jim Dunlop.

MXR Phase 90 Features:

The Series 2000 was a complete rework of the Reference and Commande lines of pedals. They were higher quality pedals, with electronic FET switching and dual LED indicators. They had a contoured, all-metal chassis and an easily removable battery. They had a fully rubberized bottom and were remote-controllable. Most of the pedals had dual outputs with distinctly different sounds. After all, 20th-century music could essentially be summarized this way: Someone invents something that does something to sound ( looking at you, talk box), and then somebody else invents a genre of music around it. Early phasers came on the scene in the late 60s, and in 1974 MXR was essentially launched on the strength of the iconic Phase 90 pedal. Even though the only options currently are for Speed and Intensity, with a little fiddling, anyone can find the perfect phaser arrangement for the songs you’re currently listening to is functionality provided are elegantly stated below their respective spots.
