In a fact-finding field trip in the name of catharsis, White hunts down the main players in said memory and hears about their own personal experience and recollections. A sort of rambling memoir about his life occasionally punctuated by weird crowbarred references to things that happened in cricket at the time. The Maccabees, the band for whom he is renowned, released four studio albums and split at their commercial peak after 14 years together, off the back of a UK number one album and major festival headline shows.

The way Felix touches on both the comedic and tragic elements of the sport through descriptions of his 'cricket cave' hit close to home at points. The best book I've read about cricket - although it's not about cricket really - rather an essay on grief and how cricket and music helped the author both and cope and avoid the tragic loss of his mum.His description of his rise to fame with The Maccabees, his absorption with cricket and lack of connection in relationships was both uplifting and tear jerking.

He does this through his total immersion in his two passions, one of which he watches from afar and through the other, he forms a band. A beautifully written book, ostensibly about cricket and music (you really do need to love cricket to read this) but really about death and grief and moving on.It is quite simply the best music biography I’ve read since Cash by Johnny Cash and as a bonus it also contains allusions to Luis Boa Morte.
