About this deal

Initially, I thought this was going to be a piece of short prose by Wilde and was surprised I couldn't find it in any collections of his works. So I bought the thankfully cheap e-book. It turned out to be a collection of Oscar Wilde's quotes and aphorisms.

In art, as in politics, there is but one origin for all revolutions, a desire on the part of man for a nobler form of life, for a freer method and opportunity of expression” This guy is very quotable and I very much enjoyed reading this. There were a few quotes that made me feel, like, "How did this get in here?" But for the most part it is great.that made me feel awesome while participating in the very art-centric activity of reading a book of Oscar Wilde quotes. The things one feels absolutely certain about are never true. That is the fatality of Faith, and the lesson of Romance.” Oh, it is indeed a burning shame that there would be one law for men and another law for women. I think that there should be no law for anybody.” The musings and observations that fill this little book are wonderfully entertaining. Despite his arrogance, one can’t help but be amused. The witticisms range from sad and cynical to just pure brilliant and beautiful depending on the mood social media influencer Oscar Wilde is in.

Oh, how I wish I had Oscar Wilde as my bosom friend! There would have been no dull moment in my life. Yesterday evening Mrs Arundel insisted on my going to the window, and looking at the glorious sky, as she called it. Of course I had to look at it. She is one of those absurdly pretty Philistines to whom one can deny nothing. And what was it? It was simply a very second-rate Turner, a Turner of a bad period, with all the painter’s worst faults exaggerated and over-emphasized.” I never approve, or disapprove, of anything now. It is an absurd attitude to take towards life. We are not sent into the world to air our moral prejudices.” Have you ever wanted to learn a martial art, or to play the guitar, or how to program a computer? Have you had difficulty figuring out where to start, what path to take or just wanted some advice to get you to the next level? a critic should be taught to criticize a work of art without making any reference to the personality of the author. this, in fact, is the beginning of criticism.” a possible reference to the media distaste/outrage towards “the picture of dorian grey”No one survives being over-estimated, nor is there any surer way of destroying an author’s reputation than to glorify him without judgement and to praise him without tact.”

Despite winning a first and the Newdigate Prize for Poetry, Wilde failed to obtain an Oxford scholarship, and was forced to earn a living by lecturing and writing for periodicals. After his marriage to Constance Lloyd in 1884, he tried to establish himself as a writer, but with little initial success. However, his three volumes of short fiction, The Happy Prince (1888), Lord Arthur Savile's Crime (1891) and A House of Pomegranates (1891), together with his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891), gradually won him a reputation as a modern writer with an original talent, a reputation confirmed and enhanced by the phenomenal success of his Society Comedies - Lady Windermere's Fan, A Woman of No Importance, An Ideal Husband and The Importance of Being Earnest, all performed on the West End stage between 1892 and 1895. you forget that a thing is not necessarily true because a man dies for it.” talking about religion? PDF / EPUB File Name: Only_Dull_People_Are_Brilliant_at_Breakfas_-_Oscar_Wilde.pdf, Only_Dull_People_Are_Brilliant_at_Breakfas_-_Oscar_Wilde.epub Are there not books that can make us live more in one single hour than life can make us live in a score of shameful years?” Oscar Wilde has some great somewhat-anti-nature quotes, including "My own experience is that the more we study art, the less we care for nature...Art is our spirited protest, our gallant attempt to teach Nature her proper place"The more abstract, the more ideal an art is, the more it reveals to us the temper of its age. If we wish to understand a nation by means of its art, let us look at its architecture or its music.”

Many of these quotations will make you stop and think, a bit like a work of a Seneca, but as Oscar was obviously no Stoic, you’ll encounter quotes that will make you laugh and some you may even find preposterous. But that is the joy of this book. urn:lcp:onlydullpeoplear0000wild:epub:3adcf7fe-6b02-43e2-ac79-2df0de943cff Foldoutcount 0 Identifier onlydullpeoplear0000wild Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t51h0cf8w Invoice 1652 Isbn 9780241251805 LIFE CHEATS US WITH SHADOWS. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.” Children begin by loving their parents. After a time they judge them. Rarely, if ever, do they forgive them". it would be a very good thing if people were taught how to speak. Language is the noblest instrument we have, either for the revealing or the concealing of thought; talk itself is a sort of spiritualized action; and conversation is one of the loveliest of the arts.” One can live for years sometimes without living at all, and then all life comes crowding into one single hour.”
