An official John Wick comic book mini-series developed by Dynamite Comics was announced in June 2016. The films in the John Wick franchise hardly goes in-depth into the titular character's upbringing and origin story, but the comic book limited series from Dynamite Comics goes a long way in filling in those gaps. Its not until we get to the end of the book where we learn that John is being introduced to the business, despite the fact that he already knows about the business.

And while the choices made for John's past were questionable at best, I shrugged it off as a legendary killer needing a ridiculously overdramatic backstory. The spin-off, crossover and Continental series are all still in development, and the brief foray into VR wasn't highly praised. John was born Jardani Jovonovich in a Padhorje village somewhere in the Byelorussian SSR of the Soviet Union to a Ruska Roma family on September 2, 1964. And Chad Stahelski found surprising influence in 1952's Singin' in the Rain when it came time to choreograph fight scenes. The entire story-line of the comics sees John avenging the massacre of his home village in El Sauzel.

John meets with Sofia, an old friend, manager of the Moroccan Continental, and someone whose marker John holds for rescuing Sofia's daughter.

When a young John Wick embarks upon an epic vendetta, he comes up against a strange, powerful community of assassins and must learn how to master the rules that guide their lethal business. Calamity – The Three Bills' insane former bazooka-wielding enforcer and the true target of Wick's vendetta.

Though that raises another problem - a much as this version of John looks and acts and fights like the movie version, how much room for character growth is there, exactly? Located in an undisclosed location in upstate New York, the real-life house where John's home scenes were filmed in many ways perfectly encapsulates the minimalism of the John Wick franchise.

But when Maria intervenes and arms them with the backing of the Continental, even a force like Wick concedes he needs the resources and connections of the Underworld.
