About this deal

They have been beefed up in every possible way to be a better replacement to any car that uses the TH350, TH400, or generally, a muscle car. Fuel economy for which they were launched for has been up by 30 percent based on their real-life operation. The 200-4R vs the 700R4 transmission comparisons show their strengths and weaknesses as well as their similarities and differences.

Above: Moving onto autofocus, the RF 70-200 f4L employs dual Nano USM motors, allowing it to focus closer than the old EF version as well as operating more smoothly and quietly. In my tests – demonstrated in the video review above – the RF version focused a little faster than the EF model and felt more confident too, whether photographing objects, people or wildlife. Above: Now for them all at 200mm and using their maximum apertures, starting with the RF 70-200mm f4, followed by the RF 70-200mm f2.8 and finally the EF 70-200mm f4. Again with their coverage matched by cropping the RF images, with the EF 70-200mm f4 on the left, the RF 70-200mm f4 in the middle, and the RF 70-200mm f2.8 on the right, again all at 200mm and all at their maximum apertures. Do you have a preference? I quite like the softer edges on the older EF lens and the RF 2.8 models, but all look pretty good. I have the the complete S1 70-210 from and I find them all goo performers on both A7 and A6000. Never really tested on the M43 but I suspect they won't perform just as wel (i might be wrong here). Gearstar builds high performance automatic transmissions, and we highly recommend the 200-4R because of its straightforward installation and reasonable price tag. Because this transmission is an analog model, it doesn’t rely on a computer to tell it what to do like its “E” siblings. This is part of the reason why the price tag is smaller than other transmissions. Above: To illustrate the worse-case scenario, here’s the older EF 70-200mm f4L zoomed to 200mm and positioned as close as it can focus to a ruler, approximately 1m from the focal plane.

Reduce 200/4 to lowest terms

Above: Side by side at 200mm with the RF lens on the left and the EF Mark II on the right shows them both delivering similarly-sharp results in the middle when wide-open, a result that also applies to the corners.

The good news for MFT is that vignetting isn't an issue like it is for FF. Compared to larger formats, MFT images look very even across the whole frame in nearly all IQ properties. So, if edge-to-edge consistency with a bit of softness overall is your thing, MFT is a great choice. Personally, I don't see a real advantage to MFT when bigger-sensor bodies are neither more expensive nor bigger, offer wider view angles with the same lenses, and have sufficient pixel density so that an MFT-sized crop would still give you pretty much what an actual MFT sensor delivers with old lenses... but no doubt moderator Tom will post a response to this about how much better he feels MFT ergonomics are... or you can just imagine he posted that and we'll save him the effort.

Multiply the divisor by the result in the previous step (4 x 0 = 0) and write the answer at the bottom: If you are looking for a way to upgrade your classic muscle car’s Powerglide or TH350, then you would be hard-pressed to find a better answer than the 700R4, or the 200-4R. Yet while the 700R4 is often seen as the more popular successor to the throne of the TH350, the 700R4 is not going to squeeze into every build, not is it necessarily the best fit for your car – especially if you are going forward with a lot of aftermarket work in mind. Above: And finally the view at 200mm from the RF 70-200mm f4, and completing a story of excellent performance, you’ll see there’s sharp details in the centre which again don’t benefit from stopping-down, with that crispness extending into the corners. Obviously as a telephoto zoom, the depth of field can become quite shallow, so for landscapes you may prefer to stop-down, but these tests show the lens can perform very well when wide-open.
