About this deal

I will let her speak for herself, and hope her words help those of us who turned out a bit shy, or short, or insecure, or invisible, or overlooked, to grow an inch while reading: Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'fore I Diiie (1971). New York: Random House. ISBN 978-0-394-47142-6 [16] What I like about poetry is that it is never completely "read". Like the Akshaya Patra ("Inexhaustible Vessel") in the Indian Epic Mahabharata, which keeps on delivering food no matter how many times one approaches it, a poetry book will keep on supplying food for the intellect. In every new reading of a favourite poem, you will find something fresh to appreciate. What I, also, like to do is read then re-read her poems to find hiding meaning in her words which there are plenty; the game of finding alternative/hidden meanings is a delight. The race is kept alive by the resilience of a people who refuse to break. As the woman in the poem "Our Grandmothers" says:

Oysa ben bu şiirde çok daha mistik bir hava sezinliyorum. İnsanın ölümünün kendi kıyameti olduğu düşüncesi geliyor aklıma.a b Lupton, Mary Jane (1998). Maya Angelou: A Critical Companion. This is the first time I’ve read an entire collection of Maya Angelou’s poetry in its entirety and I can say I was deeply moved, and her perspectives on life make me want to be a better teacher, husband and person. Her acute sense of understanding about how love comes and goes is brilliantly found in my favorite poem, Late October: “Only lovers see the fall, a signal end to endings” (Angelou 8). Angelou studied and began writing poetry at a young age. [3] After her rape at the age of eight, as recounted in her first autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings(1969), she dealt with her trauma by memorizing and reciting great works of literature, including poetry, which helped bring her out of her self-imposed muteness. [4] Angelou considered herself a playwright and poet when her editor Robert Loomis challenged her to write Caged Bird, [5] but she has been best known for her autobiographies. [6] Many of her readers identify her as a poet first and an autobiographer second, [6] but like Lynn Z. Bloom, many critics consider her autobiographies more important than her poetry. [7]
