About this deal

We start learning more and more about Leni from the memorial page her sister Alice set up and hearing all her stories put a big smile on my face. The Best Days of Our Lives has a sad and difficult event that forms the core of the book from which all the other events and situations involving the characters evolve from. Alice is also trying to find her own path in life now that her sister has died and is trying to find out the things that she wants out of life for herself.

Its characters were written with depth and real humanity and as such their grief was raw and palpable and yet this is a novel that still manages to leave you uplifted by the end.Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. At the very time when people most need books to widen their horizons, or escape from their fears, or enhance their lives, the doors are closed. Her once perfect life is in shambles, and the thought of dating again in the age of Tinder is nothing short of horrifying. Three lives collide in this gripping story about friendship, motherhood and marriage and the façade of perfection people present to the world. There’s such depth that it’s hard to accept that all the people here – Alice, Belinda and Will in particular – are not real people.

As Erica is drawn deeper and deeper into Mercy’s life, she discovers there is no record of Mercy’s daughter. Her marriage is over as her husband can’t cope with what she has turned into and all the solid structures once in place in her life are gone. While I did cry my eyes out reading this story, I would definitely describe The Best Days of Our Lives as a fun and happy book. Each dealt with the loss in a different way, but it was nice to see them leaning in each other and coming together, achieving something that Leni would have loved to have happened. After Leni McKenzie died in an accident, we follow the McKenzies navigating through life in which their beloved sister and daughter no longer exists. A handsome husband, a stunning home and a baby boy with twinkling blue eyes and a smile that would brighten the darkest of days.

Evolving from distant and uninvolved to becoming Father of the Year over the course of a book is an impressive feat.Belinda through consulting a clairvoyant and spending ridiculous amounts of money to 'talk' to her daughter, Will by running off to Thailand to sell tourist 'rubbish' on the beach and Alice by becoming obsessed about Leni's last few days and what she was doing from appointments in her diary that aren't very clear.
