About this deal

Didn't give me too much bad surprise, the PSU shroud and bottom mount issue, I already knew them before getting the case. If there was any hair from my pets, the front fans would get it before it ever got to the bottom fans, so I had to clear out my front filter a lot more often than the bottom filter.

Since Fractal sent us the proper PCIe riser cable, we didn’t have to strap everything together with zip ties and the GPU and CPU coolers didn’t make contact--this is just how it is with air-cooled components in this configuration. Gen 2 Type-C with Fast Charging support and up to 10Gbps transfer speeds - Reversible front door with anodized aluminum cover and dual-handed mounting system for adaptability with elegance - Nine fan positions with intuitive layout and clear airflow paths offer massive cooling capacity - Nexus+ Smart Hub offers superior fan control of six additional case fans and three PWM devices via your motherboard - Three silent, airflow-optimized Fractal Design Dynamic X2 GP-14 140 mm fans come pre-installed, ensuring optimal airflow via two intake fans and a single exhaust - Extensive water cooling support with room for up to a 420 mm radiator in the top, 360 mm in the front, and 280 mm in the base - Power supply shroud and Modular Storage Plate conceal HDD trays and excess cabling for a clean, clutter-free interior - Third generation ModuVent(tm) technology gives users the choice between a soundproof steel cover or filtered multi-fan ventilation in the top panel - Easy-to-clean high airflow nylon filters on the front, top, and base with full PSU coverage and front access for convenience - Modular Storage Plate lets users easily convert between the Standard Layout for maximum storage capacity or the new Open Layout for superior water cooling support and clear air flow paths - Vertical 2. Despite mostly blocked by the PSU shroud, the bottom 120mm still contributes some airflow - felt it by hand using speedfan to adjust speed settings. The PSU shroud has also a new mesh (better than the R6 IMO) and the front section of it is also different, offers more possibilities since it has two pieces and the mounting system better to work on. I have both of those, and I just bought a piece of lumber at Lowes, and cut it to the size of my FD R5's feet, and you couldn't really even see it. Space can be freed up to improve airflow, to change the location of hard drives or to install additional water cooling components. dBA is almost exactly the same as the Pure Base 600, and the only case that’s quieter at max RPM is the Thermaltake Core P3, because it has no fans.

The Define R6 offers nine fan positions with an intuitive layout to create clear and direct airflow paths that offer unmatched cooling capacity. Removing the front panel has become one of our regular tests, as it provides an absolute best case scenario for airflow that other results can be compared against. Now, the R5’s successor is here, ready for 2017 with a full PSU shroud and a tempered glass side panel. I keep spare copies of both of Baret's pools off-site and rotate them with Baret on a regular basis. Designed from the ground up, the Define R6 goes beyond iteration with a profound stride of innovation - the latest and largest step in the legacy of the world-renowned Define Series. We’ve praised Fractal in the past for high build quality and logical layouts, and the R6 continues that trend. This is mostly an aesthetic change, but it does remove some airflow obstructions and allow more clearance for radiators.

I did remove the front and top panels to improve airflow and even so the case is quieter than expected. The top metal cover is a b*tch to remove for me at least and had to use 2 flat head screw drivers as plyers.

If you instead plan on using the top for ventilation, then I prefer the look of the Define R6 since the Define 7 has a strange (horrible for me) dust filter/vent mesh combination. In my experience over the past month trying to tame a 5700 XT's temperatures - mainly hot spot/junction - I found that airflow over the backplate had an immediately noticeable impact. I'm not questioning your decision, just try to understand whether I should go this route as well or stay with Focus+ Gold. Note the black noise dampening paneling; this is the same paneling on both sides of the case and contribute significantly to keeping the case quiet.

The Define R6 Series from Fractal Design has been crafted from the ground up to go above and beyond when it comes to innovation. With a host of features cleverly designed for enthusiasts, it is a quiet enclosure that can accommodate a powerful and expandable system. We offer a complete circular IT solution so as well as supplying the latest technology we also recycle unwanted tech, simplifying IT lifecycle management and helping to minimise the impact the technology industry is having on our environment with our fully accredited recycling facility. s budget Pure Base and high-end Dark Base lines, and the tempered glass version is a bit more than the Silent Base 800.The net is very coarse, and it is a single layer, like the ones on house windows to keep out mosquitoes. Well that is in "comparison" of other cases, in my opinion is really "thermal obsession" and the temperatures even with air cooling are totally acceptable.
