Schooling as a white good has been a key contributor to Black and brown poverty, and one of the primary engines of white advantage. Myrdal had his own mythology, however, in his account of the relationship between white supremacy and the American Creed.

The kinds of teens who are willing to go against the grain by taking an unpopular religious view are also the kinds of teens who are curious and self-driven. Their children, who have not known, will hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live on the land which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess. The more selective the institutions from which students graduate, the more likely they are to pursue graduate degrees and to secure high paying jobs.
