About this deal

Something that remained constant as we tested hundreds of shoes across several categories is the fact that waterproof versions of shoes tend to be on the heavy side. We felt that to a much lesser extent with the On Cloud 5 Waterproof. We confirmed this in our lab by placing it on our digital scale for measurement. Its weight of 288g (10.2 oz) is 11% lighter than that of the average waterproof walking shoe - a significant difference! Arch support is good and the shoes’ breathable waterproof membrane kept our feet dry and warm. Even the collar, which can often feel stiff and uncomfortable on new hiking boots, is moulded and padded. Aside from their chunky design, we have struggled to find fault with these boots for both active and leisurewear. The shifting of organs due to a waist trainer may also affect the digestive organs, such as the esophagus (food pipe), stomach, and intestines. The midsole’s very supportive nature is also something we loved about the Cloudnova Form. Our durometer turned up a 31.5 HA hardness, which is firmer than others by 25%. This served as the underpinning our feet needed to help avoid pronating. Its supportiveness even got better with its 4/5 torsional rigidity which provided us lateral stability. Whether you’re a beginner looking for a daily workhorse, or a high-mileage runner seeking consistent performance with a bit of cushioning, the 880 really is a shoe that can work for everyone.

Even after hitting double-digit miles, we noticed its outsole could take a lot of beating. To test the rubber's hardness, we used our durometer in the lab. With an 83.0 HC result (vs. 79.9 HC average), this means it has a harder rubber that could resist more wear and tear. Fashion isn’t everything, but it’s worth noting how many celebrities and style mavens have strolled about in these, teaming them with everything from wide leg trousers to beach dresses. The Pegasus 40 includes two Zoom Air units – at the forefoot and heel – which helps to give that responsive, energised feel. While it’s certainly not one of the new generation of maximalist cushioned shoes, when you step in to the Pegasus, you do immediately feel that comfort hugging your foot securely in place. It has a really plush feel, and fits true to size. Often, but not always, comfortable footwear needs to adhere to a dress code or even safety regulations. But, where possible, most people want to feel good about the aesthetics of their footwear. While comfort and style don’t always go hand in hand, some of the findings in this round up have shown that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Designed to provide ‘maximum performance on daily training runs’, the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer V2 is peppier and more propulsive than your average training shoe, but without the elite energy return – though also the price tag – of a top-end racer. The Light sequel of the acclaimed Ultraboost series oozes comfort like no other daily trainer out there. It’s comfy from every angle, moving with the feet in seamless harmony from mile 1 to wherever the road leads. Shoes for standing all day should offer plenty of room for movement – your toes need to wiggle freely and there should be room for your feet to expand if the temperature rises.

The original Magnify was a neutral daily training shoe with a responsive, cushioned and super-comfy ride – and the second iteration offers more of the same. Where there are tweaks, these are all to the good, making this a great shoe for seasoned runners and beginners alike. The ForeverRun has the same Nitro foam that’s found in all of Puma’s running shoes, but here it’s combined with a firmer foam in a dual-density midsole. The result is a lovely, comfortable and soft-but-responsive ride that yes, delivers stability, but also responsiveness. Some people claim that waist trainers can provide a range of benefits to those wanting a sleeker body shape. These include: Hourglass figureBeneath the insole of the Nimbus 25, a dreamy realm unfolds. Sinking our feet into the silky and gigantic midsole felt almost therapeutic, with this caretaker exhibiting the best cushioning of the daily training scene. This is a shoe that is definitely meant solely for race day, and at race pace – the more you put in, the greater the energy return and sense of propulsion you get out. The firmness means that at easy paces, though, you simply don’t feel the benefits of the carbon plate.

Any weight loss from wearing a waist trainer is more likely to be due to increased sweating than to any loss of body fat. What’s more, thanks to being made from real leather, they will always keep your feet nice and warm. According to the ABCS, wearing a waist trainer can reduce lung capacity by 30–60%. It may also cause fluid buildup and inflammation of the lungs. Internal damage The hotly anticipated third iteration of On’s supershoe – in fact arguably its first true supershoe – has proved something of a marmite design, and whether you love or hate it will depend largely on how you feel about firmness in a shoe.On the run, the shoe feels supportive and nicely flexible. It hugs your foot without constricting and can handle changes in pace, too. We were even more pleased when we pressed our durometer to the midsole, as it showed a superb level of softness of 21.9 HA – 25.5% more plush than average. This translated to a phenomenal feel during our extended city strolls.
