About this deal

To learn about Gut and Psychology Syndrome, how it develops, and how to treat it effectively with a sound nutritional protocol, please read the article What is Gaps by Dr Campbell–McBride, in addition to her book “Gut and Psychology Syndrome – Natural treatment for Autism, ADHD⁄ADD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Depression and Schizophrenia”. GUT AND PHYSIOLOGY SYNDROME™ People on the GAPS diet are advised to take daily supplements of both fish oil and cod liver oil to ensure they’re getting enough. Stage 1: Consume homemade bone broth, juices from probiotic foods and ginger, and drink mint or chamomile tea with honey between meals. People who are not dairy intolerant may eat unpasteurized, homemade yogurt or kefir.

The most important component of the GAPS diet is probiotics – the essential, beneficial bacteria which can heal our gut. To obtain these we will need to begin to eat cultured vegetables/fermented foods. We will also need to take a good therapeutic-strength probiotic. The author goes into detail about the benefits of the various probiotics,Samonis G et al. (1994). Prospective evaluation of the impact of broad-spectrum antibiotics on the yeast flora of the human gut. European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infections Diseases 13: 665-7. The diet suggests introducing each food individually in a small amount. If you don’t note any digestive issues over 2–3 days, you may gradually increase your portions. Singh V at al. Changes in soluble interleukin-2, interleukin-2 rector, T8 antigen, and interleukin-I in the serum of autistic children. Clin. Immunol. Immunopath. 61:448-455, 1991.

The final stage of the GAPS diet involves gradually reintroducing food items over the course of several months. Apart of normal digestion and absorption of food healthy gut flora actively synthesises various nutrients: vitamin K, pantothenic acid, folic acid, thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), ciancobalamine (vitamin B12), various amino-acids and proteins. Indeed, when tested people with gut dysbiosis always present with deficiencies of these nutrients. Clinical experience shows that restoring the beneficial bacteria in their gut is the best way to deal with these deficiencies. Ketones (acetoacetate, beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetone) are water- soluble substances produced in the body when it uses fats for making energy. In a normal healthy state our bodies can use both glucose and fats, depending on the composition of our meals, activity level and other factors. Having ketones in the blood is normal, because fat is the preferred source of energy for most organs and tissues in the human body. Every time your body burns its own fat for energy, ketones are produced, and they can also be used for energy production. In the GAPS Diet we can use nuts, oily seeds and cooked beans for making bread, cakes, muffins, pancakes, waffles and various deserts. We grind nuts and oily seeds into flour consistency to replace flour made from grains. But, before we can use these new ‘flours’, we must prepare the nuts, seeds and legumes properly.
