But... the launch of Paramount+ in the UK has complicated this issue, with international rights to release Hellraiser now potentially in the hands of them (it's coming to Paramount+ in Australia, for example). Only time will tell, but what it does mean is that it isn't out here yet, which is frustrating in the digital age, when day-and-date digital releases should be the norm (see: Netflix) rather than a pleasant surprise. Resident Evil Labs My favorite are the people who complain about the 2021 "Candyman" being too "political" and "woke" and then going mute when it's pointed out that the original three were as subtle as sledgehammers to the kneecaps on every topic from racism to class inequality to police brutality (which "Day of the Dead" REALLY had something to say on).

Obviously, the above synopsis isn't exactly what Hellraiser is about… I just wanted to see if I could make this grim and dark pain-focused horror film sound like a heartfelt family drama you just might see on the Hallmark Channel. Instead, Clive Barker's magnum opus is a dark fairytale where things aren't all sunshine and rainbows. It dives down to the depths of obsession and addiction and the effect on the family. At least that's certainly one way you can look at it. Hellraiser was a frequent movie of discussion in film school because it's stark imagery and themes could be remixed and interpreted in a wide variety of ways - depending on whether or not you relate to the material. and those filters always looked softer in comparison for the most part and remains so here, albeit with a slightly better handling of the underlying grain and detail. We have no idea at this time whether or not Hellraiser will be released on DVD/Blu-ray here in the United States, but we’ve learned the film is hitting DVD over in the United Kingdom.
