About this deal

Having tried to inflate a caravan tyre with a high pressure pump which blew the 10A aux fuse in the caravan I am now a little wary (although I do notice that most appear use the car socket which seems less convenient). Just wondering if any "more mature" caravanners here use an electric pump or manage with a manual pump. No faffing with extension leads, getting the car near enough to reach the battery / 12v sockets, no blown fuses.

If we were older or had mobility problems we would plug it in and go and make some tea ( we were told that when we purchased it) but I'm impatient and can't wait! I also invested in a small (40 Ah) 12v battery since mine draws more current than the normal caravan / car fuses on a cigarette lighter socket will allow. Someone said to me the other day (as I was bemoaning the pump and having to reverse up to the awning anyway) why don't you get a bike battery and use that? The unit has a digital display along with adjustable pressure settings and will inflate and comes complete with adaptors for air beds as well as tents and awnings. If you give the guy ropes a tug to ease out any kinks in the tubes then the two stage pumps will stay on low pressure high volume setting which will speed up the inflation, I think the Kampa Breeze was a two stage pump. Have used the hand pump and found it to be quite good but using this on one of the hottest days last year not recommended. Simply plug the Dometic Gale into a 12v cigar lighter or similar power source using the extra long cable, set the PSI required and let the pump do it's job.

Yeah, I was really impressed at the way the pump performed, even after my tinkering with the fitting. Simply plug the Dometic gale into a 12v cigar lighter or similar power source using the extra long cable, set the PSI required and let the pump do it's job.

I use a Hand Pump, I was offered an Electric one FOC but declined as the model I was offered had some problems, a friend of mine had his awning literally blow up twice despite setting the pump to the correct pressure. The information I was given by the dealer is that the Breeze was not made by Kampa but made in China and licenced to use the Kampa name, whereas the Gale is manufactured by Kampa. Ok that's a solution but why doesn't kampa have an integral battery in the pump knowing you have to have a direct 12v feed to power it? I purchased a pump because my previous awning was a multi inflation with about 10 tubes, now I'm back to a Kampa the hand pump can do the business probably quicker as Lozzy mentions above. I had a Breeze which was worse than useless, took a while to convince myself to invest in the Gale but glad I did!
