Early in the book, I was willing to give this one a three-star rating. It wasn’t my favourite James Herbert book, but it had me curious to see what would come next. The ending, however, let me down. When the supernatural was finally explained, it was done so simply and the story came to an far too sudden end. I expected more from this one, finding myself let down by the way things concluded.

I’m going to be honest and say this one disappointed me. It wasn’t the usual James Herbert read: instead of being a creepy story, it was more a detective story with a small amount of the paranormal thrown in. Usually I love such stories – detective stories are some of my favourites, and I never say no to the supernatural – but this one failed to hit the right spots for me. Nobody True continues the theme of life after death, being narrated by a ghost whose investigation of his own death results in the destruction of his illusions about his life. Herbert described Creed as his Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. The character Joe Creed is a cynical, sleazy paparazzo who is drawn into a plot involving fed-up and underappreciated monsters.

Then, too many years later, I found this in the university library's "giving away for free" shelf. So of course I had to take it, because FREE BOOKS! And then it sat in my shelf for several years waiting for its moment.

Many years on, Jim Kelso works as a detective in City of London Police's Robbery Squad. Although a good officer, he doesn't work well in a team and colleagues see him as a Jonah as officers with him on jobs often suffer mishaps yet Kelso always comes through unscathed. From the age of 16, Herbert attended Hornsey College of Art, where he spent four years studying graphic design, print and photography. He worked as a paste-up artist and a typographer at one advertising agency, and then became art director and subsequently group head at Charles Barker Advertising. Joe Creed is a paparazzo. He lives for that one shot. Sadly, his involves celebrities caught with their pants down. Preferably literally. Omdat ik, toen ik het boek las, nog geen (echte) beoordelingen en mening gaf over boeken is het voor mij niet mogelijk om nu een juiste waardering aan het boek te geven. Ik hoop in de aankomende jaren tijd te vinden om oude boeken weer op te pakken om opnieuw te lezen, zodat ik ook dit boek een juiste waardering kan geven. [2] Biography [ edit ] From the title and the cover art I had assumed that it was going to be a werewolf tale. But, I was wrong. There are no werewolves in the novel whatsoever. There is a mysterious killer however. Anyway, I am not going to delve in the story in detail. In brief the major events of the novel take place in the island of Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel near the French coast. The island really exists.
