About this deal

The film is being written and directed by award-winning director Chris Green, who has been in the business for more than 18 years since coming runner-up in the prestigious Northern Soul new writers competition. The former professional boxer has turned his hand to songwriting and singing, as well as hosting the twice daily Shinny Show Live on social media, where he speaks openly about his own life and struggles, including addiction and anxiety.

To deal with it I count my blessings, think of my family,” he said. “I feel grateful for what I’ve got – think of my kids. Then I make a coffee and I’m ready to take on the day.” I had to show them that it is possible to pull through. Now I’ve got a new addiction, which is boxing and getting fit. He wants to bring more ‘real life’ to social media, in an age when so many people present a false image of themselves and seek instant gratification.

Making of an Addict promises to be an interesting and important film. Certainly one to look forward to... We talked about the tragic statistic that suicide is the biggest single killer of young men in the UK. Men between the ages of 20 and 49 are more likely to die due to suicide than any other cause and Shinny spoke about the number of cases he’s become aware of recently.

For the past year, James has been broadcasting his own one-man program called 'THe SHINNy SHOw LIVe' where he held honest and frank discussions about his own struggles and what he did to overcome them. I want this film to help others face their demons and overcome their disease of addiction. It’s an illness that affects hundreds-of-thousands of people in the country. Shinny is very open about his own experiences with substance abuse. He even uses his popular online SHINNy Show Live to have an honest and open dialogue on matters including drink, drugs, anxiety and depression.

If I can make a difference to just one person by sharing some positivity then I’ve achieved something,” he said. My mum used to live in fear of getting THAT phone call,” said Davenport, who played rugby league for Leeds Rhinos and Salford Reds, as well as fighting on the same bill as Joe Calzaghe at the MEN Arena. Thousands of people in Salford have been involved in one way or another with the Star and we'd like to thank them all. Salford is a very special city and, hopefully, we've given it a very special community publication. Davenport’s original boxing career only lasted for five bouts, with the highlight coming in his final contest on the undercard of Calzaghe’s victory against Jeff Lacy in 2006.

He said: "I was finding my feet a bit in the first round and getting used to it again but after that I was trying to get at him. He kept holding which made it difficult to land any telling punches. The Christmas Official Chart Top 40 will be counted down on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart with Greg James on Friday, 23 December from 4pm. The full Top 100 will be revealed on OfficialCharts.com at 5:45pm. I asked if he would remove that element of his character, if it was possible. "That's a good question...Yes, because it took me away from my sister and mum...but no, because now I can talk about it and help people".
