No one in her family is religious, so her brother Utah updates the church marquee every day with fun facts instead of Bible verses. Add in the fact that yes, even though we get explanations for all of the secrets, lies and deceits, it still didn't change my perception of some of these characters.

This is a genuine story of young newlyweds, and the years of discovery still going on between these two beloved characters. She's conflicted by her feelings for Sagan, who leaves intriguing sketches (illustrated by Adams) around the house for her to decipher. But Ridge can’t hide his feelings for Sydney long—and they face their dilemma with refreshing emotional honesty. Peterson’s eight original songs flesh out Sydney’s lyrics with a good mix of moody musical styles: “Living a Lie” has the drama of a Coldplay piano ballad, while the chorus of “Maybe Someday” marches to the rhythm of the Lumineers. It was more so after this point though that the main theme of the book became apparently, and I started to lose interest.

It deals with the fluidity of sexuality and how everything can change based on your perspective of the world around you. Hannah’s proven storytelling skills are ideally suited to depicting such cataclysmic events, but her tendency to sentimentalize undermines the gravitas of this tale.
